When it's too cold to golf...

    For everyone that lives in places where the courses close in the winter, what do you all like to do? I assume there will be lots of simulator answers, I personally ice fish all winter. Though this year where I live we can't seem to get quite cold enough for that. Oh, and I also tend to buy new clubs lol

    I live in the South, South Carolina along the coast. Very few of those days. Trying to figure out how to send the gnats and geese farther north.

    Haha Chuck, we're trying to get the geese to get back into southern migratory patterns instead of year-round 'residency'!

    I started to play some pocket billiards this winter. Would also like to play three-cushion, but I haven't found such tables near me. My family had a table when I was a young tween/teen, and like golf, my memory tells me I was much better then, than now. I wasn't very good then!

    When I lived in NJ I would try to do a simulator league or hit balls at least once a week in a simulator. But also take at least 1 vacation to a warmer place!

    Luckily I live in a part of the country where it's not too cold to golf year 'round. We do run into days where there may be frost delays but that generally, lasts a few hours. The biggest thing we're having this year is the amount of rain. Courses that have poor drainage are pretty much unplayable; it's going to take a few days in a row before things start to dry out.

    When the courses are not open, there's usually a driving range that is open and it's a great place to get your golf fix until then.

    We have a "golf dome" about 45 minutes from my house. Very nice about 100 yards, great putting area, Trackman studios and simulators. I try to go once or twice a month while it is cold here. It's nice to get full swings in even if they go 100yds. You still have enough time to see if they are offline or not.

    Now living in Florida and have teed off with a temp of 39 degrees.

    When I lived in Michigan and Illinois, if it was warm enough to go for a walk, it was warm enough to carry a golf bag. The only hang up is you need to have little or no snow.

    But when that wasn't possible, dome and sims were the best bet to keep a swing grooved.

    Up here on Long Island as long as no snow or frozen tundra we play. This Past weekend it was a balmy 35 degrees. Luckily no wind!

    We don't close for winter here in Kansas unless it's weather related. I myself don't care (anymore) to go play in less than 45 degrees weather because of the wind here. If it's sunny & light winds 5-10 maybe, but typically it's 15-20 with gusts & that is a bit too cold to enjoy the round. When I was younger a different story.

    I still chip & putt all year around though.

    If the course is open, it's not too cold to play golf. (However, if the wind is howling too, that's a different story.)

    Spend some extra time with the family! Also watch football and college basketball...

    It's cold and snowy here in OH. My son built a house last year and put an area in the basement to hit balls. Walking indoors, light weights and hitting balls in his basement sure beats shoveling snow. Early April won't get here soon enough.

    Practice putting and stare at my bag... but a friend put an indoor hitting area this year. Hopefully will get to use that quite a bit. Typically out of action in NE Indiana until April.

    Definitely working on putting together something in the garage. More motivating when you can’t swing it regularly.. also decided to dedicate a good little surface in the basement to make a practice putting green. Needing to upgrade from this 3 x 9‘ little skilz runner.

    Mostly try to keep in shape and continue to work out. Bonus this year in NY, no snow and plenty of 40 degree days to work on 30 yards and in and swing the trainer.

    Today, it is a record of cold, around less 25 deg celsius. So, I am watching Golf Channel, a nice tournament at Pebble Beach golf course and dreaming to return to the Monterey Peninsula.

    Other than that, I am working out to be ready for this season after a back problem.

    In Quebec, we stop to play golf in November and we only restart in beginning of May. That is a 5 month stop. It is a good time to see new golf equipment, prepare equipment for new season, change grips, change shafts, change clubs. I think, sometime we spend more money of season than when we are playing.

    I'm happy to now live in the PNW where we can golf all winter (albeit in the rain). But when I lived in a more icy location I would lace up the skates and play hockey most of the winter!

    Living in Texas we can play virtually all the year round... somedays it is windy or cold but being from the UK I can still ay in it
