Counterfeit clubs have been covered well for over 10 years. In this issue of Golf magazine there is another illegal activity to be aware of.
Actual new clubs are showing up at prices too good to be true. Available on line in small quantities from “small” sellers, the price is usually the only clue. The merchandise is being stolen from shops with basically no cost for the seller. They don’t even need to sell at 50% off full retail. Even 80% of retail is enough to attract buyers of a $600 driver or a $400 putter at $499 or $299 for new clubs.
While authentic they are creating incentives to continue to steal or shoplift for later online/out of the trunk sales. Hard to pass up a good deal. Hopefully the top 5 OEM’s can promote awareness so golfers can disincentive this activity. I’d hate to lose my local Premier fitting center due to major $$$ loses due to theft.
