  1. To say El Nino has put a damper on this season in the NY area is an understatement. As I can only play once per week, I only have 20 rounds in this year. As such, I have been pressing and last week shot my worst round of the year. Low and behold today's 78 was the best round of the year. Unfortunately, October usually signals the end of the season but now hope springs eternal for next year. My index is down 2 points and hopefully Mother Nature will allow me a few more tries before the snow flies.

Snow is one of those four letter words and better you than us. You guys have been taking a beating up there this year. Condolences. Everytime a hurricane entered the Atlantic this year, always seemed to head north and miss us here in S Carolina. Got my big boy portable (12000 running and not a Generac) generator ready and was building an outside shed for it. Kinda on hold for now and will finish as the weather cools. Gotta get an electrician to connect a plug to my breaker so I can connect it and run full power to the house. Kinda less expensive for the amount of times we will need it. Congratulations on your great round. Actually October is great golfing weather for us in the Charleston area. We only have about three to four weeks of winter in January or February. Very brief. Why so many folks are moving here. Cannot understand why so many come here to play golf June - August. The absolute hottest time of the year and the heat index can take it to 115+. Schools out, I guess. Would love to see those beautiful trees change their colors right not. First is better than worst, because we always remember that first (better score).
  3. Thanks Chuck, when my folks were alive, I have many fond memories of visiting the Charleston area and playing with them. Best round was a 76 on Ocean Winds. Forget which number hole it is that plays almost right into an onshore "breeze", I thought the ball was going to end up behind me the gusts were so strong.

Fall is a beautiful time up here, if it would only stop raining. One of the prettiest courses is the West Point Golf Course. Gorgeous views of the foliage and the Hudson River Valley.

I was born in Westchester County, many great golf courses up there for the public, even though the season is very short. Our private club had a Late-May to Mid-October season, then it was buttoned up for the winter, greens covered, fenced in. First day of the season was the best, we dreaded the last day. Started planning our winter trips!

Seabrook Island has a couple of neat courses and when the winds are blowing they can be really brutal. That is a great score. Did a recent event for their member/guest. Kiawah Island and Seabrook offer some challenging holes, but again when the wind takes you on some can be three or four club holes. My best round on the islands was at the Ocean Course in 1997, a smooth 77 from the blues. Boy has my game changed! Am very blessed living in this area having some many great courses here and close by (Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head). Only takes about three hours to get to get up to Pinehurst Resort, my favorite resort. Would love to play the West Point Course. Saw some of the pictures on their site. Stunning views. Miss the changing of the foliage in the fall, which is my favorite time of the year. If you get back down this way, the Marine Corp Air Station @ Beaufort has a pretty good course. Ranks rather high among the military courses. Might want to check it out.
  6. Thanks Chuck, hope to get back there one day.

Great news, congrats! I feel the same Seasonal Affective Disorder here in the PNW. I am looking forward to building a golf indoor range to get over this but to match that 76 and 78 in the next season.
