  1. finally after being close a handful to times, I broke par shooting -1 (71) a couple weeks ago playing a course tees selected at about 6500 yards. I was sitting -3 standing on 14 tee until I blew my drive right into the trees. took my drop grinded out a bogey on a long uphill par 5. But whos counting.... lol, also lip out for birdie on 18...…anyway just wanted to post about it and my excitement at breaking par for the first time.

anybody have any cool stories breaking par for first time or a crazy shot/putt made to shoot par?

Two days after my 68th birthday, back in 2014, was playing with my group and had a great round going. Looked like I was going to shoot my age. Came in to hole number 18 with my goal in mind and one of the guys in the group reminded me that if I would par out I would shoot a 67, one under my age. He had a habit of letting me know this when I playing good and I had asked him on numerous occasions to please not do that. That five inches between my ears would usually take over and, well I would mess up. Keep it in the fairway and play well was my thought process. Great drive and a nine iron in and pulled it into the bunker on the left of the green. My worst enemy. Two shots to get out and and two putts for a double bogey. Over thinking and ended up with a 69 on par 72 course, first time under par. Great score, but not my age. Was happy BUT. Finally stopped playing with that group, and was able to finish that hole in the future with better results. There are enough bees in the five inches that a butterfly is not needed. Had to do what was best for me. Shot under par a few times more, before they renovated the course and all my back issues. Lucky to shoot in the nineties or high eighties right now. Life is good, am able to play. Golf is about having fun, scoring is secondary as you get older.
  3. Great stuff. I have broken par once. 70 on a par 71. I shot 37 on the front and 33 on the back and birdied 3 of the last 4 holes.

Congrats! That is one heck of an achievement. I'll continue to break par..... in my dreams.

I had a chance to break par one time. On the 18th, I was even and had 20 footer for birdie and I aggressively knocked it 5 feet by. I missed the par put and shot 1 over. I do not believe the round would have counted though, as there was a temporary green on one of the holes.

One of my goals for the year was to shoot an even par 9…..at least 5 times headed into 9 or 18 even and doubled or tripled it. Clearly need to work on my mental game!!!

Congratulations! I never broke par, but came close a couple of weeks ago. It was the craziest round I have ever played. I had 5 birdies, 1 bogey, and 3 double bogeys. The double bogey on the final hole resulted in a score of +1 for the 18 holes. Despite the final score, I wasn't upset about the round and thought I could have played better. I am looking forward to next year and hope to get into red numbers!

Nice! I've never broke par on 18. Did it a couple times for 9 holes but closest I have been to breaking par for 18 was 2 over.
