  1. I am traveling to the San Diego area this December and was curious what is your favorite course to play?  I have heard Torrey is good but the conditions may not be great for the price, Arrowhead is nice, Maderas is nice but Barona might be the best value and course for one's dollar (twilight play begins at 11am)...any input would be appreciated.

even if you don't play torrey, at least go there.  the views of the pacific (even from the clubhouse terrace) are incredible.  then drive down the road to la jolla and grab a bite and a beer at george's.  safe travels!

I would say that Coronado Municipal is gonna give you the best bang for your buck. Good luck getting a tee time though.

Also Riverwalk GC has an earlybird special $25 for 9 holes with a cart.  There are quite a few golf courses in the county and they range from 1100 yard 9 hole layouts to Torrey Pines.

If you happen to be retired military, Admiral Baker South is $9 for 9 and $18 for 18.  Law Enforcement is $12 and civilians are $16.

If you want to try a nice executive course, Oaks North.  It has three par 30 layouts.  The par 4s are between 240-310 yards and the par 3s range from 115 to 205 uphill.  The greens are very soft and quite a few are two tier.

There is also another executive course in National City. Greens fees are $12 and it is par 34 2200 yards with one 485 yard par 5.

Admiral Baker is totally public now and play the better North course!

Agreed the North course is much better.  If you need to do a quick 9 early in the morning,  South is OK because they have a 9 hole rate.

Played Coronado last month and walked on no problem and it is a great value.  Get on their site and check the calendar to make sure no activities/tournaments are going on the day you want to play.  I showed up around 0800 and by 0835 I was on the course.  I had time to hit a small bucket as well.

obvious is torrey pines, if you head just north a bit on I 15, there is a place called Maderas and that is a great course with lots of character. If its resort you want try La Costa or Aviara.

    Play Torrey Pines.

North County or South County? If North, I would say try to get on Aviara, it is an amazing course. If South, I would say give Steele Canyon a shot, it is one of my favorites to play.
