What is the best golf resort in the world?

    Hey TT long time no see,

    My family and I want to take a trip to a golf resort this summer. We were thinking about Maui as there is great golf there, but i want to go somewhere different as we have been to Maui in past trips. 

    If any of y'all have ever been to a golf resort that really hit it out of the park, please don't be afraid to comment below:)

    Pine hurst or Kaiwah Island vine hurst can be either the actual report or just the area away from the resort.

    Are you looking for golf or golf and extra stuff for family?  That could really change the answers you're going to get.

    Hey Jacob, I have not been across the country to play at resorts but I know of a very nice one in Virginia. It is called Primland Resort. It is a spectacular golf course with great facilities. The Lodge is beautiful and the scenery around the area is fantastic. This may not be what you are looking for but if it is then enjoy! Hope you have a great trip wherever you decide to play!

    I'm with Todd T on this one, but for a domestic option, go with the Monterrey Peninsula in CA.  A plethora of great courses within 17 miles...

    Are the family members all golfers? Ages? if you live with golfing fanatics, there is no better golf experience in the continental US than Bandon on the Oregon coast. The collections of courses is amazing and the locale is breathtakingly beautiful. But understand that Bandon Dunes is a GOLF destination. Not a heckuva lot else to do besides play, eat, dream golf...Unforgettable within the lower 48.

    Pebble Beach includes PB, Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills also nearby is Pacific Grove Golf Links. Also in Pebble Beach if you have connections Cypress Point, Monterey Penisula

    In the Santa Cruz Mountains is Pasatiempo.

    Pure golf?  Bandon Dunes.  I don't think of it as a "family" destination, though.

    If you're looking for options in addition to great golf, the Greenbrier is tough to beat.

    Gotta take a slight step back and give Bandon a 'lil luv'... I've seen Pebble a few times here, but during peak season at Bandon is $220 for first round of day.. $110 for second and if you have enough light or energy, any other holes are free.. That alone puts it ahead of Pebble.. Now I'll do Pebble once because of cost, but the dollar value accompanied food and courses make Bandon a true gem, especially in the US.

    A friend and I are headed to The Pinehurst Resort in April. Our first trip there for both of us. We considered Kiawah Island but the plane fares were considerably more fro Connecticut and Minnesota.

    Play Golf early then sit in the pool all afternoon.

    Pinehurst Resort and Mid Pines/Pine Needles.  All the golf you would ever want!  All are classic courses that are fun for most anybody to play.

    When I go for resort golf I look at the non-golf activities as my wife does not play golf.  In my opinion, The Greenbrier in West Virginia is the best golf resort because golf is just one of many activities, there is something for everyone at Greenbrier.  All of the courses at The Greenbrier are fun and challenging.

    If you are taking the family you will not be able to beat Kiawah Island. Just about the nicest beach in the country, tons of activities for kids and unbelievable courses including The Ocean Course. Lots of different accommodation options as well. Bring your wallet.

    Just back from Pebble.... It's all that and the price will dictate that...... It's good for a bucket list, but I'd go with Bandon and Casa De Campo.... A lot of golf without killing wallet.

    If you want some nightlife, you certainly can't beat Grand Cypress in Orlando. For the real resort feeling, Pinehurst is hard to beat. Bandon is on my bucket list, as are a few in Europe. There are too many to list!.....

    If your trip is solely golf focused, it's Bandon Dunes all the way. The resort's hotels and restaurants are very good and the service is excellent. I believe the staff would do just about anything to satisfy guests. The golf courses are all outstanding. As iconic as Pebble Beach is Pacific Dunes is every bit as scenic. If you want great golf, better weather and more activities, Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina is outstanding. Just driving through Pinehurst gets me emotional.

    Cabot Links/Cliffs @ Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Had the opportunity to play there in September of this year by invitation. It is a destination resort and will not break the bank. Cabot Cliffs will open for public play in April 2016. Outstanding layout and some consider the cliffs, Pebble Beach on steroids. Not a family vacation spot. The resort is open April thru mid October and is a walking course. The Links Course is ranked 42nd in the world and the Cliffs has yet to be ranked but should be very high on the world rankings according to Global Golf Post reports who sponsored our event. Kiawah Island Resort is a great place to visit and has excellent courses to accommodate all levels of play. If you come to Charleston play the course smartly and enjoy your round on the Ocean Course. I have played it many times. A friend of mine was the superintendent who brought the course in for a number of years. Amateurs playing from the tips will not have an enjoyable round and do not be afraid to move up. It has been tamed from it's original condition in 1991, but it is still a beast. Only one sand trap on the course. If the trade winds are blowing it can be a long day. Pete Dye has presented a wonderful layout and invites danger so play the course smartly and enjoy your day. Watch out for the deer and rattlesnakes. You might get a discount if you stay on property. It is way over $300 to play the Ocean Course. Other courses to consider on the property, Turtle Point and Osprey. They are two of my favorites. If you belong to a private club, see if your pro can get you on The River Course or Cassique, they are on the property but not part of the Resort and private.

    For me it depends on what you are looking for. I grew up old school, in New York. We had TRUE, out in the woods resorts, like Grossingers, The Concord, and Nevele, which were Catskill's resorts. I've been to several top notch resorts in Virginia, Michigan, upstate NY, Hawaii, and the Carolina's. And my answer is, I can't name one....
