The thread about the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has me thinking about a trip to Myrtle Beach.

For those of you that have been recently, any suggestions around time of year and must play courses would be much appreciated.  It's probably going to be for 3-4 guys, 36 a day for 3-4 days.

Caledonia Golf and Fish Club is the best course I've played at Myrtle Beach. Actually it's in Pawleys Island which is south of Myrtle but well worth the trip. It was designed by Mike Strantz. Tigers Eye which is actually in Calabash, NC is worth the trip north. The Dunes is very good and also TIdewater. I realize I've included some courses that aren't central to Myrtle Beach but I have played a lot of courses there and these are some of the best.

There are so many to chose from in the greater Myrtle Beach area. I'll second JK's recommendations although I haven't played Tidewater yet. Just over the border into NC I'd also recommend Thistle Golf Club and River's Edge. The Dye and Love courses at Barefoot Landing are very nice courses to consider as well. I've gone to Myrtle Beach the last three years in October and weather has been near perfect.

The Dunes Club and The Surf Club are my two favorites in the Myrtle Beach area. These two are among the oldest and are therefore more traditional and classic layouts. Access to these courses may be limited.

Tidewater is definitely my favorite along with Glen Dornoch. Both right on the waterway with some great holes along the waterway.

I'm heading down in August and playing 2 rounds at Glen Dornoch! I keep seeing really good reviews and i'm super excited! This will be my first Myrtle Beach golf trip! my buddies and I are setting it up individual stroke play in the morning and team games in the afternoon! Should be a great trip!

Thanks for the insight, I have not been for nearly 15 years, planning a return trip later this year in the late-Aug. Thanks again for the feedback.

I have a three day trip for June this year and we are playing TPC Myrtle, The Heritage, and True Blue. Had Caledonia on there however they are plugging the greens that week unfortunately.

Regardless of place all are very nice courses! Enjoy

Hey Mike. Be forewarned, Heritage sends out golfers in 6 minute intervals and does not send rangers to manage play. Your group will wind up playing a 6 hour round of golf. I spoke to the person in club house after my round of golf and the attitude they was had was if you don't like it don't play here. I would stay away from here.

Hey folks. i read the comments in this thread and I am very surprised that Kings North Myrtle Beach National was not mentioned. If you never played this course then shame on you. This course is the most popular course on the Strand. This course is meticulously maintained and has an awesome layout. This is a great course and will not dissappoint. You got to play this course.
