I will be traveling to South Carolina to play True Blue and Caledonia the end of March/ start of April. I was wondering what type of weather to expect and are the courses in good shape then?

    Josh,
Your going to love these 2 courses. I strongly recommend you get yardage books in the clubhouse " before" you go out. Reagrding weather, I foumd this gem:

I guess their predictions are based on averages for precipitation and temperature for many years. This time of year is very unpredictable so keep abreast of the weather about a week before you get there. As Myrtle Beach is part of a tidal " lowland" you can expect it to be very soft and muddy if the are say 3 or 4 days of rains prior to your trip. Bring extra socks in case. You may need a sweater if you have an early tee time but will more than likely remove it later in the round. Great time of year to head to the strand.

    Good Luck,

DV, thank you for the reply. I am looking forward to this trip. And thank you for the tips. I have a yardage book from Caledonia, but will pick one up from True Blue. I am going with guys that play there every year, and I don't want to loose all my money.

    Hey Josh,

If it turns out that you really enjoyed playing True Blue, then you got to try playing Tobacco Road which is about 30 minutes north of Pinhurst North Carolina. This is another Mike Stranz course and very similar in their design characteristics. It's my favorite course whenever I am in the Pinehurst area.

DV, I have never gotten a chance to play in the Pinhurst area. I look forward to playing True Blue and will update everyone on the experience.

Hi Josh. I travel to Myrtle Beach area a few times a year...In fact I just got back on Feb 27th after playing for a week and played True Blue on the Wednesday after a couple days of hard rain on Monday/Tuesday for 30-40 mins each day and then when we played TrueBlue it rained hard only on #1 but was too late...pain in the butt cart path only! Little annoying because the course had pretty decent drainage, most of the time. But overall the course was in very good shape when I went. So the end of March, early April, you should be good to go.

I've been early-mid-late February and early-March for golf trips to that area and then I go again with my family in May. Weather in Feb/March can be up & down...consult the WeatherNetwork app...very accurate! But on a cool even wet day all you need is a good windbreaker and possibly a sweater. I've got a good FJ Tour-pullover that doubles for rain and keeps me warm & dry with a LS or SS golf shirt underneath.

Will definitely go back to TrueBlue again. Saw Caledonia...looks spectacular!

Headed to SC this week. I will let you know how it goes, will be the first rounds of the year, it has been a poor wet spring here.

Got back last week from SC. Have been catching up on work and finally getting to post my thoughts. Caledonia was as advertised. One of my favorite courses now. Every hole had its own character and it was in great shape. You cannot beat the drive into the property. True Blue was not in as good of shape and you could tell by the green speeds. They were very slow compared to Caledonia. Over all both courses were a lot of fun and it makes it even better staying on the property. A great golf trip and I would go back anytime.
