I'll be driving from Maryland to South Florida and I have 5 days for travel. I'm looking to play every day. What 5 courses would you play? Below are the course I had planned on playing.

    1. Tobacco Road 2. Pinehurst No. 2 3. The Ocean Course 4. Streamsong Blue 5. Streamsong Red

    God Bless you Matt!

When do you plan on going? Just so you know, my father is playing in a tournament at Pinehurst next week...it's done by Liberty Mutual, it's the national finals from their charity tournaments that took place all last year. It's a four day event, so I hope it doesn't interfere with your travel plans!

    Good Luck!

I plan on going mid June. I'll be in the DC area for about a week so Laurel Hill might be doable while I'm there.

    Hey Matt,

I live here in Virginia and I go to Pinehurst, NC twice a year. Here are some options you may consider. Very early in your journey from Maryland, you will be driving in my neck of the woods and will be passing by a real gem of a golf course Laurel Hill Golf Club. This course is well maintained and is very challenging. You need a very good tee to green game and an excellent putting game to score here. Long hitters have an advantage on the course. It' about 6 miles south of the DC beltway south on Rt 95. Highly reccommend if you got the time. Here is their web site:

    www.fairfaxcounty.gov/.../

In Pinehurst, course #2 will beat you up if you never played it before. You would have more fun on #4 or #8. However, keep in mind to play these courses you have to stay at their resort. If you cannot get on any of the Pinehurst courses based on what Jason said, you might want to concider these outstanding courses in the area:

    Dormie Club,
    Pine Needles,
    Tot Hill Farms (Asheboro, NC)

Tot Hill Farms is a gem of a golf course if you got game and is another Mike Stranz design (Tobacco Road, Caledonia, True Blue,....). This course is about 1 hourse west of Pinehurst but it is well worth the trip. It's a stunning mountain course with every hole having high shot value. You will love this course...very scenic. If you play Tobacco Road I strongly suggest you pick up a yardage book in the Pro Shop before your round. There are many tricky blind shots that a laser finder or a GPS will not help you with. Outstanding course if you got game. As you continue your journey south you are also passing by Hilton Head South Carolina that has Bay Harbour.

Also, as you get into Florida you are driving right past Ponte Vedra (TPC Sawgrass). A little further south is the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine. Here there are 2 very good golf courses, the King & the Bear, and the Slammer & the Squire.

Anyway, I thought I would throw this info out for your consideration on your dream travel trip. Have fun.

    Best Wishes,
    DV

Streamsong is a great choice!!! I played the blue a few years ago, it's an amazing course and a fun layout. I've heard from a few that people like the blue slightly better than the red. And the clubhouse is crazy big...

One of the TT member played The Ocean Course a few years ago and had a blast..

I like your list unless you can somehow get onto Augusta? :)

    safe travels!

I recommend Jack's new course Potomac Shores in VA over Laurel Hill if you haven't played it before. It opened to the public last spring.

I recommend Wicked Stick and Arcadian Shores in Myrtle Beach they are two gems in that area that are quite frankly Hidden Treasures.
  10. Matthew,

Since you're rolling down that I-95 corridor, I'd also strongly recommend you check out Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and King and Prince on Saint Simon's Island. One of my guys just took a similar trip and said the southern Georgia courses were in much better shape than the Floridian ones. I played King and Prince a few weeks ago and thought it was awesome. Safe travels and play well!

I just played Tobacco Road on Friday, with a stay at Pinehurst to play #2 on Saturday. Not sure if you can drive fast enough to play all 5 in 5 days. Scheduling Pinehurst may be tight - I couldn't tell if you could play #2 w/o staying at the resort, even then scheduling is tight. The earliest I got on Saturday was 1:10 pm and that was 5 weeks ago.
