Hi Louie, here are my two suggestions in that area:

If you are looking for an amazing course near Newport Beach and greens fee is not an issue: Play Monarch Beach Golf Link
    50 Monarch Beach Resort North
    Dana Point, CA 92629 • (949) 240-8247

If you are looking for an experience in its local publinks in the area without breaking the bank, play Tijeras Creek Golf Club
    29082 Tijeras Creek
    Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688 • (949) 589-9793

    Have Fun!

Thanks for the info guys, Pelican Hill looks great but cant spend the money. Have either of you played at Strawberry Farms or Oak Creek? Trying to stay close to Fasion Island as the wives will be dropping us off.

I live down the road from all of the mentioned courses (well within 20 min) and I have played all of them. Pelican Hill is awesome but as you said pricey. I love Tijeras Creek its a tale of two nines for sure and isnt to pricey. Both Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek are decent but in my opinion wayyyyyyyy over priced because of the area they are in. There is a good amount of decent tracks around here. Another option is the destroyer course up at Seal Beach. Great course for a military course and not expensive at all. (Fun fact this is where Tiger Woods learned the game from his father as their house was like 3 miles away), they actually have two courses there. Monarch Beach is really nice has some decent views but also is a pretty penny to play. Let me know if you have any questions!

I live in between Strawberry Farms (member of men's club) and Oak Creek. Both are good tracks. Strawberry is a bit more penalizing if you stray as most the area in environmentally sensitive. Oak Creek is the sister course to Pelican and is a bit more forgiving. I do think the greens at OC are usually a little better, but not by much. You can usually get deals from the tee time websites on SF, but not as often at OC. Being a local, I think OC is a little pricey for what you get.

BC and Scott- Thanks for the info. Will prob end up playing SF or OC for the proximity to Fasion Island as the wives are coming with and we will only have one car.
