I live in LaQuinta in the Coachella Valley. Have a great trip. Since I live in the Valley, I do not have any particular leads on homes to rent but would suggest checking out VRBO (Vacation Rental by Owner) web site: vrbo.com. Hoes in PGA West are generally very good and since you are looking to play several of those course. A couple of course I would recommend are Big Horn and Shadow West. Both are up the Valley floor not too far from PGA West. One thing to be aware of, is that late October through November is the prime time that golf course often reseed and many course are closed during this period of time. You may want to check with the courses you are interested in playing to make sure they are open when you are going to be down. Have a great time.

Rob V. brings up a very important caution for the time you'll be in town. Most of the courses are in maintenance at that time and are preparing for the up coming season, so do check with the course you will want/thinking to play at.
He also mentions Big Horn and Shadow...wow, if you can get on both or either one of them, and they are open for play, you'll have an experience you won't easily forget. It's very tough to get on and exclusive private club, though.

VRBO is a good suggestion along with Airbnb for a home rent for a week.

Again, if the courses you are playing will be open for play, and you are only staying for a short period of time, and since you are already at PGA West, stay and play at PGA West and La Quinta courses. First, you will save a lot of time running around town- there are plenty of good places to dine at, and I also think it is the better side of all of Coachella Valley. Palm Desert, Indian Wells & Rancho Mirage are just a few miles up if you want to cruise around- save the Palm Springs and Cathedral City for another golf trip.

The best "warm up" course is Tahquitz . Its the old Palm Springs Country Club. Its now a muni and cheap. Two courses, Resort and Legends. Both are kept in great shape and they are the best "value" in Palm Springs area.

I like Classic Club.
You can also head over the mountain to Journey at Pechanga.
We usually stay at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa.
Two Great Courses on site as well!

If you are playing PGA West which is at the southern end of the area, I would stay in Palm Desert which is about 20 - 30 minutes away. It is pretty central and probably another 15 minutes to downtown Palm Springs which is in the other direction. Check out Escena golf course and also the Gary Player course at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage.

thank s all for your tips! The overseeding/maintenance was a great tip and saved 3 big guys from cart path only courses. We played the following
PGA West Greg Norman Course (back 9 bunkers were a killer)
Indian Wells (cannot recommend this course enough - great staff, great course)
Desert Willows (not bad shape, lots of desert!)
Terra Lago (nice piece of history, lots of skins games played here)
Tahquitz Creek (beauty of a course, my best round, great location)

#23 ProV1 was my go to ball, left a dozen out in the desert somewhere!
