I'm heading to Cali in a few weeks. Anyone have any suggestions for courses in the Napa Valley area? Thanks.

I live in the Bay Area and I would suggest Silverado Resort & Spa and Chardonnay Golf Club. Silverado is where the PGA recently played The Safeway Open.

Silverado, right in the valley is a nice place to play. It makes for a great day; golf in the AM, a light lunch at Domain Chandon (incredible lunch filet!) and then a quick trip to Opus One for a tasting! Life is Good!

Play Silverado if you can get on. I'm not sure what their current policy is if you aren't a member or a guest of the resort. I personally prefer the South course over the North course. Chardonnay is great if and is set among vineyards in south Napa, but can get windy in the afternoon, so morning is your best bet there. Napa Golf Course can also be a fun track if you play from the back tees. It was a US Open qualifying site in the 1960's and has water on 14 holes, though it's not always in play. Being a muni, the condition can bite hit and miss. Two years ago it wasn't in that good of shape, but I played it in June at my company's tournament and it was much better. If you belong to a country club, try and get a reciprocal for Napa Valley Country Club. The front 9 was built in 1915 and is tight with small greens. The back 9 was built in the late 80's and is totally different, though the greens are still small. It's always in great shape. Have fun, it's a great time to come to Napa.
