Close Proximity of Golf Courses

    Can any one tell me of places in the United States that have a great deal of golf courses within a close proximity. I'm aware of Hilton Head Island but I'm trying to gather a list of places to choose from for a potential golf vacation.

    Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Phoenix/Scottsdale, Tuscon, Las Vegas, Pinehurst area. The list can go on and on. Depends on what you are looking for and how close you want the proximity of the courses to be to each other. All of those mentioned have more than a few top shelf courses close to each other. There are many more areas where you'll find the same thing, but these are all a great place to start.

    Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Pacific Grove are all within 10 minutes of each other. Add Bayonet & Blackhorse also near by and Pasatiempo about an hour away.

    I like the recommendations Doug E provided. I also like the Palm Desert/Palm Springs/la Quinta area. Especially in the spring before it gets hot.

    I believe the Phoenix/Scottsdale area has the most golf courses per square mile in the U.S. Not to mention it's beautiful there almost Year round.

    Fort Myers Florida area is claimed to have the highest golf course per capita density in the States. It a nice area, a little overgrown, but nice none the less.

    I live in Mt Pleasant, SC which is across the river from Charleston. The east coast of South Carolina is a great place to play golf. You can play Hilton Head, Bluffton, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. Santee, Florence, and Aiken are on the outskirts of Charleston one to two hours and then three hours away is Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC.

    Chick you forgot about one of the greatest resorts and its right in your own backyard, Kiawah Island!!!!!

    Kiswahili is fantastic and also love the Sand Hills/Pinehurst area, just awesome. If you want more golf than you can handle then Myrtle is a must. So many options.

    Forgot to add that Myrtle Beach is the number one golf destination in the US. There are plenty of courses there to choose from. Play 18 holes and watch the beautiful sun set over the Atlantic ocean listening to some great beach music at a local watering hole.

    Also worth mentioning is the Robert Trent Jones trail in Alabama. Loads of great courses all over the state and not as pricey as some locations. Vegas is the most brutal for pricing, gouging the tourists.

    In the border states of Utah/Nevada, St. George/Mesquite area has a fabulous and many selections of great golf courses.

    Casablanca Golf Club - (Mesquite)
    Conestoga Golf Club - (Mesquite)
    Coral Canyon Golf Course - (Washington)
    Coyote Springs Golf Club - (Coyote Springs)
    Entrada at Snow Canyon CC - (St. George)
    Falcon Ridge Golf Course - (Mesquite)
    Sand Hollow Resort (The Championship) - (Hurricane)
    Sand Hollow Resort (The Links) - (Hurricane)
    The Oasis Golf Club (The Canyons) - (Mesquite)
    The Oasis Golf Club (The Palmer) - (Mesquite)
    Wolf Creek Golf Club - (Mesquite)

    And then there's Palm Springs area in SoCal

    Played in Palm Springs then drove down to San Diego to play Torrey Pines. Lots of courses in Palm Springs. Gets pretty warm in the later summer months.

    Myrtle Beach, they have close to 80 golf courses within 60 miles of eachother!

    Peninsula Golf Club
    Craft Farms
    Lost Key
    Lakewood Country Club - part of the RTJ Trail


    Gulf Shores puts you close enough to Destin and close enough to some RTJ courses as well if you want to make an all day event of it.

    Kiva is probably my favorite course - I have shot my best round and worst round ever there.

    Peninsula has a great view on hole 13 or 14 with the bay - take time to walk the bridge and soak it all in.

    Lost Key is called Lost Ball - put the driver away and keep the ball in play - you will post a good score if you do that. This is an Arnold course.

    Gulf Shores Country Club - best value - and a very nice course - they have a 600 yard par 5 that has always played into the wind for me.

    Myrtle Beach South Carolina has 100 courses you can play. I've played about 40 of them so far.

    If your on a budget the RTJ Golf Trail in Alabama is a great option. I previously lived in Birmingham and loved playing Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge. Montgomery is only an hour away and they have three more that are really nice. The courses are always in great shape.

    Chicago. Great city, museums, attractions, World Champion Cubs, and lots of great courses within 30 minute drive of downtown. Cheap, quality golf for $40-$100 a round.

    Did I mention those Cubs?
