How far South? I'm pretty handy around Fla/Georgia, you have numerous options, depending on the usual......

Pinehurst area has many bargains. It is a pure golf mecca if this is what you like. Some real nice tracks to choose from. Give this a try, you won't be disappointed. Myrtle Beach has many good golf courses to choose from but to me it is too crowded. Too much traffic to contend with during the summer and weekend golf plays too slowly at the better courses.

The 2016-17 South Carolina Golf Course Rating Panel released it's top thirty courses "you can play" list recently. Those with an asterisk are ones I have played and can recommend.

South Carolina is where i was planning on staying, Thank you to everyone who has given me some options I will definitely take a look at all these courses !

I'm going with Chuck. Played most of those courses and you can't go wrong. Many not only top in SC but in the Top 100 Nationally.

By "down south", you mean Texas right? Being from Texas, everybody knows when you say "south", you're referring to Texas unless you specify otherwise - : )

If you're going to Myrtle Beach I recommend two courses that are definitely under the radar.
Arcadian Shores and Wicked Stick . Arcadian Shores a Rees Jones design . Wicked Stick ia a John Daly design that max out with the Daly tee box . You need to be long off the tee to play back there .

Wicked Stick closed for business on September 15, 2015 and course has been turned into a housing development. Last time I was up there, houses everywhere. You would never know there was ever a golf course there.

I believe the term "down south" might refer to below the Mason/Dixon line. And yes, Texas is definitely in the South. =)

Lots of awesome courses mentioned and I have played a great number of them. That said, when given the opportunity, do yourself a favor and visit the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. You won't believe the diversity and quality of these courses.

I just played The Cascades Course over the weekend at The Homestead Resort in the mountains of Virginia. Beautiful track, and "target golf" at its best! If you are ever in the area it is a must play in my opinion.
