A course I need to play in Asheville, NC.

    My wife and I have been invited guests at the OMNI Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, a couple of times within the past six months for an art collectors event and there is a Donald Ross course that was designed in 1926 on that property that I need to play. When we visited in December, there was snow on the course and when were there this week we were just too busy to work it into our schedule. I suspect that we will be going back in the spring and it appears that I may be able to work it in on a Friday early afternoon. It looked pretty neat from the hotel, but did not appear to be too busy. Understand it has some great greens. Has anyone played the Grove Park Inn Golf Course?

    I played the course a handful of years back and it was a great take. Greens were excellent from what I recall. Asheville is a great place to visit. Great food and breweries!

    That area reminds me a lot of home. I currently live in the Charleston, SC area (since 1984) but grew up in eastern Tennessee (Knoxville). Asheville and Knoxville have a lot in common. Rich, I agree that there are a lot of great eateries in downtown Asheville, which we do our best to experience when we are there. The Blueridge Parkway has a lot to offer and we do our best to take it all in. Our next quest is to eat at FW Woolworth bldg, now called the Woolworth walk. Still has it's soda fountain but lots of local arts in the building. A very interesting concept. Hopefully someone else on our community can add more to this post regarding the course.

    Played a late July afternoon round there a couple of years ago. Was a fun course, with a lot of Ross left in it, but the groups ahead of us were slow. As I remember we played 14-16 holes before an afternoon shower and having a late afternoon appointment. It mostly below the inn with some hills. I'd definitely play again given the chance, especially if in the morning.

    Talked to our local superintendent today about the course and he said bent grass. That would be interesting for me. Use to playing various types of bermuda along the coast. Clubs in the SUV on the next visit.

    I have played that course about 20 times.
    It's a really nice track with a few very tight holes.
    The Donald Ross Greens are usually really nice.
    There are several really low points to the course so if there has been any precipitation prior to your visit it can get a little swampy!

    Black Mountain Golf Club - Donald Ross
    Asheville Muni - Donald Ross
    Reems Creek
    Cummings Cove.

    All Great courses when the weather has been dry!
    Love Cummings Cove!!!
    Asheville Muni is fun.
    Reems is a Mountain Links Course.
    Black Mountain is a really cool Ross Course with a 747 yard par 6...Easy to make Birdie Here!

    If you can get on Hendersonville Country Club is and amazing Ross Design!
