Smokey. Congrats on the anniversary. Ours is September 8th. Next year will be 40 years and we plan to spend it in Maui. I will play the Plantation Course. I think, since it's a tour stop and i am a big fan of Coore & Crenshaw courses, that's the one i want to make sure and play. I will probably end up playing both. Don't worry about being a high handicapper. Just keep up, play fast, pick up when necessary and have a good time.

How was the trip?

Trip was great everyone! Here are a few pics of the course and my TT bag tag that happened to arrive just a couple days before we left! It was an amazing trip and the Bay and Plantation courses were definitely a special treat for us. Thanks for the encouragement to add both to our list!

I've had the pleasure of playing the Plantation several times, but have never played the Bay.

Did you enjoy the Bay course? I'm sure it doesn't have the dramatic elevation changes, but I would hope it's got a plethora of ocean views.

I actually liked the Bay course the best. It was generally less intimidating and had way better views in my opinion (not that the Plantation course isn’t amazing... it is Hawaii after all). The Bay course was a more relaxing round of golf than the Plantation course... and if we ever go back, I will probably play the Bay again and skip the Plantation course now that I have checked it off my list. I’m sure better golfers here would differ with my opinion though. Can’t go wrong with either!

As you can see from my thumbnail picture this is me playing the 18th hole on the plantation course on honeymoon from the UK back in 2010. Maybe my experience was enhanced because it was our honeymoon but it is a fabulous course.

It is great watching the PGA pro's play in the New Year on TV, but actually being there you understand the huge changes in height on the course that you may not on TV.

I found the Plantation course fair to play and would suit single figure and high handicap golfers the same as it is quiet open as a course.

I did not play the Bay course but hope to go back to Maui one day, maybe for our 10 year anniversary and I would go back to the plantation course. You must also have lunch in the clubhouse which has amazing views and food too.

Next time we head out to Hawaii we plan on staying on Maui which is our favorite island. I have never taken my clubs during our visits to the islands, but this time I will. We plan on staying at Ka‘anapali Beach located on Maui’s western shore just minutes from downtown Lahaina. We stayed at the Hyatt in 2017 when we were there and I walked across the street to the golf course just to check it out. We love that area and walking along the beaches in the morning, listening to the whales is so peaceful. This is on my bucket list. During our trip with our group, our last evening's dinner was at The Dunes at Maui Lani. Golf everywhere but there to enjoy the islands, no golf, and we had a blast on that helicopter ride. The best way to see the islands.

I'm heading back to Maui in a month and will be playing the Bay course since the Plantation is closed. I've walked around the area (love Kapalua beach and walking paths), but never teed it up at the Bay. Any suggestions for how it plays?

The bay course is much shorter but still a very enjoyable course. The range is improved now, but usually limited to irons depending on your length. The winds make all the difference in Hawaii. I would also recommend making the drive down to Wailea (about 45-60 min from Lahina) and play the Gold course. A lot of fun to play and always in great condition, much better than Kaanapali. It’s too bad Kapalua is closed, but there are still some great golf options out there.
