  1. Hey everyone! New to the forums here and would love to hear what your favorite St. Louis courses are if you live near or have ever played here! So far my favorite are Norwood Hills CC, Wolf Hollow, and Incline Village. I only started playing in June and have played at least once a week since then. Except the last two weeks due to horrible weather. Would love to hear your input! If you've never played here what are your favorite courses in your area? May have to take a few road trips in the near future!

Welcome Ben. You might search through old posts on the "Travel" section of the forum. Hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy the forum.

Several that I always enjoy playing are: Pevely Farms, Tapawingo, Annbriar (Waterloo, Il), Spencer T. Olin (Alton, Il) and The Missouri Bluffs. I've played Wolf Hollow and Incline many times and enjoy them both. Although I would enjoy Incline more if they would speed up their greens (in the summer they overwater them).

And abracadabra, we're now in the travel section!

I've only played 2 tracks in STL. A public called Gateway National Golf Links. While it's not an elite public course, I thought the value was insanely good and had a very enjoyable time.

I also played Sunset Country Club which is private. I wasn't all that impressed with the first few holes but then we climbed down into a valley (similar how Augusta climbs down into Amen Corner) and the course absolutely blew me away. I walked Bellerive too but I won't count that and I'm sure it's a tough cookie to crack.

I got the vibe that most of the good golf in those parts we're behind exclusive country club gates.

I think you need to spend more time in StL before making a generalized statement like your last sentence. Yes there are lots of very good private clubs, but there are also lots of very good public courses, as I'm sure there are in your area.
  6. Allan, I think you are exactly right. STL is packed full of stuffy country clubs (and they are the best courses). The best public golf Ben is probably MO Bluffs, Gateway, AnnBriar, and Tapawingo. I also love Birch Creek, Wolf Hollow, and The Quarry at Crystal Springs. I'm always down for a round. HIt me up anytime!
