Folks, need some recommendations. Headed to Pinehurst for a Monday to Wednesday package but flying into Atlanta for a commitment Friday am. Will hit the road Friday early afternoon. Options are to drive all the way to Pinehurst Friday pm (7-8 hours) and play in the local area over the weekend (Mid Pines?) or, play our way there. Any recommendations? Would like to play once Sat and once Sun so up for any combinations of diving and playing along the way.

    Any thoughts?

If you do decide to stop and play along the way, downtown Greenville SC is a neat place to overnight. Hotels on main street along the river with nice restaurants and easy access. There also is a BMW factory between Greenville and Spartanburg that used to give a very interesting virtual factory tour in their visitor center. Not sure if the current state of social interacting has had an impact?

Tobacco Road about 20 miles north o Pinehurst can get you ready for playing with large waste areas. No white stakes. Trying to remember if there is any water, otherwise no stakes of any color in place or implied/inferred. Play it where it lies.

Have done business in Greenville. Agree with Dale. The Westin Poinsett was used to film many of the interior shots for George Clooney’s Leatherheads.

I think the only real water is the par three at the cabin where you go over a pond to the green.

I always recommend Tobacco Road if you can squeeze it in but I know there's a lot of other good places around as well. I'm sure there are folks on here from SC that will add some courses and interest along the way.

August, GA/SC and Aiken, SC are not that far apart. I would go online and check out the public courses in that area. There are some hidden gems in both of those areas that you might enjoy playing. Augusta is about 248 miles from Atlanta on I-20. August is on both sides of the state line. Never played up that way but have heard great things from members of courses we did events for up there. When the Masters is in town, a lot of in town folks play the courses in Aiken. Of course the top courses in that area are private. Woodside and Sage Valley.

Thanks folks - all much appreciated. We are heading straight into the Pinehurst area Friday and will play Tobacco Road Sat and Pine Needles Sunday. Should be amazing!

Tobacco Road is a must (Awesome target golf Mike Stratz course) Pine Needles and Mid Pines are my favorite (very historic layouts by Donald Ross) and Pine Needles is in great shape right now, location of 2022 Women’s US Open… and a great bar/restaurant…
