  1. Besides the Old Course, New Course, is Carnoustie worth playing? I need to round out a few more course for a 7 day trip in the fall. Not worried about actually being able to play (played the Black Course and #2 last year 96 and 92 respectively). So far I have New Course, Jubilee (at the request of my fiance), we will wait in the singles line for the Old Course any other suggestions within a short distance from St Andrews would be great as that is out home base.

It is definitely worth playing. However, Kingsbarns is closer to the Old Course, about 10 minutes up the road, and is a track you need to play.

I made the trip a few years back and these are the course that I played:

    St Andrews
    - Old
    - New
    - Jubilee
    - Eden
    - Castle

    Cruden Bay

    Carnoustie
    - Championship
    - Burnside

If you are holding a 2 day Ballot at St Andrews you can schedule another round day of for free. This is how Inended up playing the Eden after a morning round at the New course. The Castle course is a bit more like the golf you would find here in the US.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Hi Patrick

Have a look at Kingsbarns, The Dukes, Faimont ( 2 courses here, The Torrance and The Kittocks), Ladybank (an Open qualifing course in the past) there are also two courses at The Crail Golfing Society which is a short drive away, Im a wee bit biased as I was a member at Crail they are the 7th oldest golf club in the world.

I would book as soon as you can.

    Enjoy your trip.

Kingsbarns and Dumbarnie are both top notch golf courses that are in the area. A bit pricey but worth it!
  8. Dumbarnie and Castle would be my choices.
If you go to Carnoustie try Panmure as well.
  9. Thanks all, appreciate the advice!! We booked everything

    -Dukes
    -Castle
    -Carnoustie
    -Jubilee
    -Kingsbarns

We are staying at the Old Course Hotel and had them put in a ballot for the Old Course for each day but Carnoustie, as we both really wanted the challenge of playing Carnoustie. Should be an amazing trip!

That is a cool line up of courses for your trip.

A little late to the party, but good call on doing Carnoustie. Well worth it since you are so close. Be sure to check out Simpson's Golf Shop across the street.
  12. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes! In the meantime if you’re ever up in the Boston area and want to get together for 9/18 let me know!
