AP2 712 fitting question

  1. I got fitted a couple of weeks ago with AP2 710 irons. One fitter recommended 2 degrees upright and 1/2 inch longer shaft. Another fitter in the area recommended 3 degrees upright and 1/2 inch longer shaft.

Question 1: which fitter should I follow?

Question 2: will these fitting results still be valid with the AP2 712?

    Thanks

    Hi Pat,

There's not a lot of difference between the specs you have been given by both fitters, which could have just been a symptom of how you were swinging on the two different days that you were fitted (making the assumption that it was on different days). The difference and right recommendation would be more visible if you were to look at the markings left on sole tape when playing off a hitting board.

In general terms, the set up would be the same with 712 AP2s, it may just be that the difference is on the cusp of needing a different shaft (again assuming that the two fitters recommended the same shaft).

    Hope this helps.

  3. Hi Pat,

The specs are obviously very close and as has been said, it may have been just the way you were swinging that day. I am sure both fitters if they were Titleist certified would have strong reasons for why they chose the specs they did.

I would suggest ordering the 2 degress upright version first then Test it for a few weeks, then go and get it bent to 3 degress upright and again test it. The different lie angle will cause slight differences in turf interaction and therefore ball flight. You need to test them both to find out which you prefer. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, Flatter Lie angles tend to be more of a fade type shot and Steeper Lie angles tend to be more of a draw type shot.

    Good luck
