Got a fitting on Tuesday at st Ives for a driver and 3 wood. Am really looking forward to being correctly fit as I've had a couple of bad experiences at certain shops lately, trying to fit me to a driver rather than fitting a driver to me. I'm surprised at how many places try and sell what they have on the shelf rather than what you need. I'm really hoping the D3 suits me as I like the smaller head but will go with whatever is advised and what I hit best. Cheers.

What an experience, I was fitted at a golf store last week and told I had 82 mph swing speed and a would get on best with a D2 with the ilima reg shaft as I was only getting 170yards carry and 10 roll. Which coincidentally they had in stock!! So I didn't go for that and had a word with my pro who said go to the fitting centre. So appointment made and am so glad I did. What a difference. My fitter Paul took time to chat about what I wanted from the fitting and what I was looking for in the club then came the fun part!! Started out with my driver, an R11 10.5* stiff, which I hit high very high! After 10 shots he had his baseline, all 10 were between 93.4 and 94.1 mph swing speed but with 2900-3500 backspin and a smash factor of 1.5 which he said was good? Getting 240 yards of carry and 10 roll but they were all over the place. He suggested, as my bad shot is a hook, a tip stiff shaft - so we started with the D2 and the rip shaft. All I can say is it went miles and i loved it from the first strike. But he wasnt happy still had a bit to much spin for his liking so we tried a couple of other shafts and same thing. So out comes the D3 head that put the fear of god into me(always heard this is for good players?) started with the rip again and bang it felt spot on went miles and straight down the middle. After 10 shots swing speed was 94mph ball speed was 148mph 270 carry and 15 roll even managed smash factor of 1.51!!! We also tried a good selection of stiffer and more flexible shafts but kept coming back to the rip although the Proforce red was a very close second but just didn't have the grouping I was getting with the rip. So we called it a day and I've gone for a D3 10.5* RIP60 stiff. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for new clubs, you get to try every shaft on a proper range and actually use decent balls to. And anyone who is worried about the D3 not being as forgiving don't be it still has a fair bit. Sorry to bore everyone! Tim.

How did you get on with the 3 wood, was it the same head and shaft combination as the driver?

Went for the 910 F 3 wood went for a different shaft as the 3 wood rip shaft is a cut down driver shaft. It was ok but we both felt the proforce red gave better results. So that's what I got.

Anyone know if I need to book a factory tour in advance or can it be done on the day when I get there? Thanks Tim
