    Hi,

Wonder if you could help,i have recently noticed my putter(scotty cameron studio design 1.5) has started to get some rust spots on the head.I know this is probably due to being left in cover whilst wet but was wondering if you could advise me of how to fix this problem? although performance isn't being affected(i think!!) the look of it is terrible and its in great condition apart from that.

    Many thanks

    Ross

    Hi Ross,

Unfortunately it does sound as though this has been caused by leaving a wet putter inside a headcover. The rust itself will not affect the putter's performance, but it may be one of these cosmetic things that catches your eye.

To that end, there is a refurbishment service offered by the Scotty Cameron Studio - which would mean the putter being sent to Carlsbad in California. More details can be found at http://www.scottycameron.com/customization/modifications.asp?mp=1&st=customization

    Hi again Ross,

May also be worth looking at the following, which is a thread on Team Titleist in the US - a couple of people have made suggestions that may be of help.

I refurb a lot of clubs including gun-metal or oxidised clubheads. Rust will appear normally from time to time unless they are kept well-oiled (including the inside of the putter headcover).

You should be able to buy a silicon-embedded cloth and additionally some silicone oil (typically used for firearms) and if you keep this cloth in your bag or locker, and wipe down your putter whenever rust appears, you should have no problems.

If you store clubs in a locker after a wet round, expect to have rust appear no matter how careful you have been as the wet atmosphere will cause oxidisation.

Also good for your rusty wedges if they go the same way.

    Cheers

    Arthur
