If you were to look at Titleist club launches, our product introduction cycle is generally two years. Current AP2 is just under a year old.

With regards to technology advances in five years - definitely. The AP1 and AP2 irons are the most technologically advanced irons that Titleist has ever made - a combination of material and design improvements have made significant performance advancements.

However, you would expect me to say that. As always, the recommendation would be to go for a fitting - make a comparison based on feedback from your fitter and data from a Trackman or other launch monitor.

A skilled fitter may well be able to assist you in altering launch through a change in shaft - so either visit your pro if they fit or ask them to make you an appointment at one of our National Fitting Centres.

I really didn't think I needed any new irons, and probably don't , but just having that quick look can be fatal as the seed is now planted??

I've recently joined a new club and having only started playing again last year after about a four year gap I've come in off 9, which is my lowest to date and very tough for me. The course is very well regarded in the area and with a par of 72 & SSS of 74 off the back tees it's a serious place. I'm playing pretty well but anything I can do to improve is obviously worth thinking about??

It sounds like your new club is a tough test and, as you say, if you can do things to improve playing standards, it increases your enjoyment of the game. 

Custom fitting for the latest technology in club terms, along with practice, lessons and regular play could all combine to assist with that!

Funny - i'm in a similar situation to yourself (but haven't quite managed to come back on single figures) and had been fitted for 735.cm's 6yrs ago and have just swapped to AP2s. I was a little concerned that I would be hitting the ball a bit high with them (have heard of US guys getting them bent 1deg. strong) but they seem to be about the same as my old irons.

Observations so far - I miss my shiny muscle backs, these new cavity's don't look so good from above.
AP2s are still a players iron in that they dont feel game improvement.
Trajectory with S300s is nice and strong.
They may be 1/2 a club longer than the older irons (not confirmed this but just a feeling)

As for how long they'll be around Titleist tend to state that new irons come around every 2 years so next range should be the 714's in 2014.
