Good evening from a new member

Until recently have always played with png equipment.  In the summer I got custom fit for a 910 D2 driver, which has changed my game off the tee.

I recently decided to update my irons and due to being so impressed with my titleist driver, I was keen to see their offering in the iron market. During my custom fitting with my local pro, I tried a number of sets from miz, png and titleist.

i must say I was very impressed with the titleist's offering and eventually decided to purchase a set of AP2 - 1/2" longer and 1 degree upright.  (I'm 6.3ft with wrists 37" from floor)

what slightly confused me during the custom fit was that I was getting similar results with miz being 1" inch longer and 2 degrees upright.  Is this typical or does titleist irons come up longer than other manufactures, with slightly different lies?

The stats were quite clear and the difference between my old G10 to the AP2 were amazing.  By simply changing the shafts, I have gained on average 20yds with a 6 iron (170yds to 190 yds).

    thanks

    Hi James,

    Welcome to Team Titleist!

And very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your fitting session and selected a set of Titleist AP2s.

In answer to your question, there is no industry standard for club set up, so you will often see stronger lofts, different lie angles and even longer shafts in different sets of clubs.

Because of this, it's not unusual to see the same player require different specs in different sets of irons. It should also be remembered that the strike pattern and lie angle can be affected by the amount of movement in the shaft, so if different shafts were being used in different heads, you could quite easily come out as different specs.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Thanks Neil

I was amazed what differences the shafts made.

Simply changing from a regular to a stiff shaft added 20yds.

With such a difference in the distance between by old G10's and new AP2's, it could take a few rounds before seeing what I hope is big differences.

Could you also recommend the best differences between my gap wedges, as may also change these to Vokey wedges soon.

    Current have a 54 and 60 degree!

    Thanks

    James

    Hi James,

Would always recommend a fitting for wedges. Finding the correct gaps is essential in making sure you have the correct set up. Working with your pro / authorised Titleist fitter will ensure that you have the distances you need for the different types of shots you play. In a lot of cases, players go for a softer shaft in their wedges simply because they are not making full swings with their wedges - but conversely, plenty of players simply carry their iron shafts through into their wedges.

A session with your pro will help work out whether two wedges is the right number for you and which lofts will provide you with the best distance gapping.

    Hope this helps.
