Tried out the prototype balls today and after a few shots began to notice some differences in these and Pro V1's/V1x. Firstly a little more length, maybe around 10%, give or take obviously but did go further. And higher! Much higher in truth- took 3 8 irons to the pracice ground, 2 blade models and an MP60 and all 3 took off to the sky, but with the extra length to boot. Stopped dead on landing as well so confidence to hit through the shot to tight greens was a nice feeling to have, though this is a Pro V characteristic anyway so not so much difference as such. Driver felt good and able to shape shots as well- as was with the 3 wood. Long irons good too but again not a vast difference to Pro V's other than a gain in height and length- have to take landing distances as everywhere pretty wet so not a lot of roll to take into account. Shots into and around the green stopped quicker- again maybe 5-10% (in distance) and, off the green using a sand wedge and nipping it off the turf it seems to spin more, stopping quicker as well but no complaints as it promotes a positive stroke to the shot. Putting needs a little more oomph but nothing alarming and again, demands a positive stroke to be made. Have to think that is getting back to the Balata feel- soft off the club face and a feeling of not hitting anything when hit cleanly- nice!
Pretty impressed in the main but would know better when conditions were somewhat drier.
