  1. Hi TT,

I'm after getting a present of a trip to Carnoustie for my 30th. It's booked and I'm trying to plan a few extra rounds.

Castle Course - St Andrews Kingsbarns £288 seems abit mad

3 day pass for all St Andrews courses except Old Course

Looking for advice on other courses? I know from here in Ireland there are plenty hidden gems without having big names.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dos

Hook me up when you're over and I can take you round my track Downfield GC, open qualifier in 99 and 07 if you wish, it's in Dundee which is essentially in between St Andrews and Carnoustie.

I've just read tripadvisor about our course, very complimentary if I don't mind saying so myself.

If you are playing Carnoustie then you have Panmure next to it. Down the road Monifieth and a little further away, Downfield?
All were Final Qualifying venues, which we played when at the Open in 2007. Great breakfast at Panmure too.
There will be plenty of other courses for you to play - enjoy...
PS Message me an you can get a sleeve of TT balls as an additional gift...
  5. Thanks Steve that would be excellent, I tried to send a request but won't let me. Im away and using my phone so can't get my laptop to sort it
  6. Hi guys, thanks very much for all the replies. I have a bit of research to do. I'm lucky to be staying at Carnoustie Hotel & The Fairmont probably should have said that at the start. I'll keep ye updated as ye were good enough to pass on the information.

    Thanks
    Dos

If you go east of Edinburgh there are tonnes of hidden gems. Dunbar, north Berwick, gullane, kilspindie, archerfield, renaissance, muirfeild. The list goes on
Give me a shout if your in the area
Hope you have a lovely trip

Interesting that some have said Trump Aberdeen/Royal Aberdeen/Renaissance/Acherfield/Muirfield yet the OP seem no wanting to £250+ a round, as all of these will give you little change out of £300 a time, also he'd be unlikely to get on Renaisance nor Muirfield.

Some of the others mentioned are hidden gems, Forfar/Montrose/Strathmore etc Blairgowrie and Ladybank are excellent though I think the Dukes and Fairmont are an aquired taste. Like I said, if you fancy Downfield give me a shout, I can get you on for pennies as my guest.
  10. I will have to put the case forward for Kirriemuir Golf club where I am a country member having family connections nearby. James Briad designed course and is excellent value for money on a short but challenging course in Carnoustie country.

I would also recommend Stonehaven, Edzell and Forfar in the same area as good value for money.
