How has everyone started their new season?

I've got a full new set up this year, and started with a scramble on Saturday (3 under gross - steady golf is no use in a scramble!).

Then managed a 77 on my first solo round of the year yesterday at my home course. Again steady golf - no birdies.

Got a scramble to look forward to this weekend.

Already started by club season and been pretty consistent in the qualifiers with improvements in the short game as the greens have firmed up and started to roll true (r).

Played interclub friendly yesterday in the rain shot to Hcp with a win by 2 holes with some nice clutch putts holed (encouraging), and some great approaches with the TS fairways which my opponent wasn't too happy with.

Started my Society season last week with a trip to West Hill GC, 32 points with two NR so wasn't too bad (4th place) and a 7&6 win in my singles.(embarrassing)

Garden practice has started so chipping net, old Prov's and SM7's are getting used, BUT I'm finding I can't be consistent off the mats at the range! I start OK and then I'm all over the place (40 balls in around 1 hour so not rushing them).

We by now all be getting out there and enjoying the courses and our Titleist equipment.

Thanks Ricky, a further 34 points (scrambled on Monday) and all the club knockouts entered with first singles scheduled for Monday (giving away 1 shot) and next society Stapleford and Farnham on Wednesday.

Problem I'm having at present is range practice isn't going well shots all over the place (I don't practice driver or fairways) but garden chipping is coming along in leaps and bounds (now mixing up the distances and shot types). I'm going to need some new SM7's at this rate.

One thing that might help, though I don't know what your range is like, make sure you are aiming for a specific target. I always find that if I am just hitting down the range I'm a bit all over the shop, but if I pick a specific target I am pretty accurate.

    Morning Ricky,

New wedges & 3 wood in the bag for me this year! Spent a lot of time in the range this winter working on my weaknesses. First round was Sunday, 33 points off a 15 handicap on a windy Somerset day. Putting let me down, felt like I left a lot of silly putts out there so it could have been much better. PLaying both Saturday & Sunday so hopefully can improve again.

    Have a great season!!

Putting this time of year is often a bit of a lottery, though our greens are rolling well for early April. Keep it up!

76 Sunday in our first qualifier, bit frustrating having had a tripe and a double in that but tidy cut back to cat 1 again.

Ye thank you, decent start, keeping it going is always the issue.
  11. A mixed bag it must be said.
A few rounds of utter dross (23 points the worst) and some absolute blinders including two personal best achievements:
    1. 4 birdies in a row (5 under for the 9 - don't worry, the ambulance showed up mid way through a 3 over back 9), and
    2. first hole in one (36 years of playing) last weekend!!!

(and yes Titleist, I'm telling as many people as I can!!! bwahhh ha ha ha)

    Good golfing fella.

Too many scrambles and better balls the now, think out first individual comp is still a few weeks away yet.
Even though I was out in hail and snow last week, the new clubs in the bag were behaving and I have high hopes for this season!
    Play well all

Good man! aye it's all scrambles this time of year. Last weekend was the end of the Target Golf season (we won the league) so that was the scramble, now a Charity one on Saturday...

Don’t worry Bud , we will make it up in the late season. A trip to team Titleist golf day ( if they are putting one on again this year) would be the ideal target: See you soon , keep moving ,!,

79 with 2 x trebles and a double, if I ever learn to iron out those two or three bad holes I might manage to actually be a player.

Well a bit of coaching last night on the driver with the launch monitor to get my figures. It had been falling out the sky on me. Back up to 160 mph ball speed (the pro reckons I've more in me if I want), 260 carry and 15 Launch angle with only 1500 rpm of back spin meaning it'll run on. All of that with the range balls which the Pro reckons costs 10% distance. Looking forward to Tuesday's round now!!
