Recently I was unlucky enough to break my hand (middle of February) which meant no driving, lifting and of course NO GOLF This was made much harder by the fact that every time I looked into the conservatory my clubs where there staring at me wondering why they were being neglected. It’s been a race against time as I had ageeed to play in a Charity golf day for Cancer research which is this Friday and I was not convinced I would be able to play. I left it as long as possible before picking up the clubs again and finally went last night to the range, was very pleased that there were no pains from it although it felt a bit uncomfortable as the bone has healed on an angle and it’s the are where the left index finger contacts the right little finger. I can’t wait to get out and play now one because I’ve missed it but mainly for such a great cause which affects everyone one way or another (my wife had surgery 2 years ago this month so it’s personal for me).

Has anyone here played golf after recovering from a similar injury and if so, how did you get through the round? I’m not expecting anything go other than being able to enjoy playing again and can’t wait to get on that first tee.

    Happy golfing!!

It’s great to hear that you are back swinging clubs again buddy, even better playing for a super cause!

Best advice is make sure your injury is 100% recovered also when you do start back hitting balls please don’t attack every thing full throttle.
Watch John daly on you tube playing one handed out of bunkers and putting lol

I been playing with a long time injury 3 years now,
I dislocated my shoulder at work and instead of resting I continued to hit golf balls like a dafty.
This has had a major impact on my golf,
I got down to 6 handicap before the injury and used to play a super soft fade.
Now I’m up to 11 handicap and I play with a draw / hook lol
Ive been to countless physio places, had numerous acupuncture sessions and now my only option is surgery to repair my damage.

All the best for your comp and the rest of the season.

Cheers for the advice, Will just be enjoying a ro Nd with friends today and not trying to crush anything.

A friend of mine had both shoulders operated on as the ligament holding them in had pretty much worn away. His golf hasn’t been affected by it and is improving all the time so hopefully you can start to get that handicap back to where it was previously

I’ll give an update over the weekend to see how it went

    Hi Paul

A few years ago I broke my elbow skiing and missed a whole summer of golf. Due to the nature of the injury I needed loads of physio just to get the joint moving and the muscles built back up.

My first competitive round back was an open on another course and I won a box of balls for the best back 9!

Sounds very frustrating but I bet that first round back was really enjoyable just to be out there.
Hopefully I can play well but I’m just going to be happy to get back on the course and enjoy doing what we all love!!

    Paul,

You don't say what grip you use? if it's interlocking or overlap I could see that being a pain. Have you tried baseball '10 finger' grip just in case it gets painful mid round?

Did you not try any one handed putting or chipping during the injury? I know I would have.

Best of luck for a speedy and pain free recovery.

    Hi Ant;

I play with an interlocking grip usually which has just this week started to feel ok. I have been chipping this week in the garden but the wooden floors at the house we recently moved into would make putting impossible so I left the flat stick alone.

The baseball grip could be something should it become a little sore later in the round so I’ll bear that in mind.

Thanks and happy golfing if you get to play at the weekend.

Great to hear that you’re back. No experience of that sort of injury but my golf is limited because of disc problems and arthritis. I just try to keep as active as possible and keep going.
