Golf club theft

    Just a thought.

    Many, many persons unfortunately have their golf clubs stolen, whether robbed from their car boot or elsewhere. It can cause many problems, dealing with the insurers, waiting for delivery of new clubs to the same spec., maybe the loss of an irreplaceable club or a prized, personal possession. Has anyone thought about, or already has, fitted a hidden tracker inside their golf bag, or maybe in an electric golf trolley?

    Be so cool if Titleist bags had this fitted to their bags but then again crooks would just get wise to it.

    Hi, yes. I had been known to place a Tile keyring in my golf bag. Mainly when travelling by plane. Can check when it is getting close on the carousel.

    But also I leave it in when my clubs are in my locker. Just in case they go walkies.

    Quite a few people use tile so there is a large community of helpful mobiles checking in when it is marked as lost.

    Good point well raised.

    I've considered this and think even with a tracker the chances of getting the Police to follow up might not be possible in some parts of the UK where they're under resourced and burdened with 'more serious' crimes.

    Had a work colleague who had his phone nicked and he traced it to an address, the person at the door denied all knowledge of the phone. The police just gave him a crime number for the insurance.

    Don't leave gear in your car or at least out of view and around the clubhouse.

    BTW My TT bag tag is alarmed!!!

    Great idea in principle, but I agree with Ant, sadly I can't see the police in the UK responding to the theft of golf equipment!
    Just make sure you have your clubs secure as possible, so if they are stolen you're able to replace what you can through your insurance.

    Already heard that a couple of diver covers got stolen, but hardly ever the whole set

    Had my clubs stolen from my car in a golf club car park in July. I was insured and got clubs replaced, it’s more a hindrance than anything else but as somebody mentioned before it’s the little things things that can never be replaced. A pitch mark repairer that I have had for 25 years and the course is now closed, a ball marker that was a pressie from my dad who died last year, a Headcover from my daughter for my 50th. They’re the things that no insurance can replace. Even my TT stuff can be replaced at some stage. Will still think about getting a tracker gizmo. Enjoy the golf days folks

    just a question as I am planning on upgrading my irons so the sensible side of me is thinking that its about time I got insurance, as I am sure they will be my pride and joy (not that I dont like my current irons but I have hit the new irons now).

    Any good insurance companies recommended?

    Ideally I would like to have them insured when in my car as space is at a premium at mine, so they tend to live in the boot but I know some insurers have stipulations like 'only insured in the boot of car if travelling to or from a golf course' and must but concealed in the boot and not visible - mine arent and I know I should really find somewhere to keep them but i dont think the wife would like to see them in the living room every evening!!

    But have to admit the tracker idea is something that I will be looking into! like the Iphone 'find my clubs' :-D

    I’ve got golf insurance with Sports Cover Direct. I had to shop around a bit but my clubs are covered anywhere 24/7 so long as they are out of sight and under lock and key including in a locked car boot not at a golf event. There’s also no single item limit either so my TS2 is covered new for old to full value.

    As it happens I take my clubs out of the car after a game as I need to carry work equipment but even with “gold” home insurance my clubs are better covered in my garage under this policy than on my home cover.

    I used Carrick Neil and I couldnt fault them. Claim settled in 5 days. Clubs in a locked car on back seat with privacy glass. Insurance company fully aware of the facts. They were superb. Would never hesitate to recommend them. A little more expensive than other companies but to me you only find out how good an insurance company is, when you have to make a claim

    Looking at the Tile GPS tags, they only have a limited range of a few hundred meters and anyone taking the clubs would be out of range shortly after driving away. Is there a product similar that has a longer range?
