Tee it up?

    During a wet wind round yesterday our 4 ball was discussing tee shots on par 3,s.

    I have always played my tee shots off the deck and treat the tee box as fairway. Others in the group religiously tee it up.

    I’m sure the better players among us mix the 2 up depending on what type of shot the want to do.

    The deabate being the advantages of teeing it up!

    Personally I get different flights and different yardage if I tee it up so I prefer of the deck!

    What’s your thoughts? What do you ladies and gents do ?

    I don’t tend to tee up anything less than a 7 iron as prefer to strike off the grass with anything less , but the rest are all tee’d up at different heights , depending on wether I’m trying to draw / fade the ball

    I tend to agree although I’ve never really tried using a 6 iron of the tee, and I can’t use a 5 iron
    we have 190 yard par 3 surrounded by water and although my 6 iron will get there with a pure strike any miss hit and you end up wet or short
    I tend to to lay up then up and down for par all things being equal. I may well try 6 iron off a tee and see what happens.
    Although I tend to find a slice,,hook etc is more severe When using a tee in my irons,hybrid or wood so historically only use tee for the driver

    I tee it up on every par 3, take every advantage you can. They don’t call me the 2 club king for nothing lol.

    You just need to find the right teeing heights that work for you and your swing

    Jack Nicklaus once said on the tee it's the only time you get a chance to have the perfect lie every time, so why wouldn't you tee it up. Now I don't care how good you are, I suspect none of you are better than Jack, so I'm gonna stick with his tip.

    Tee up whenever possible.
    Tiny orange for very short irons, small red for long irons & hybrids.
    Sorted.

    I only use a tee with my TS4 driver. From the deck for all irons, 816 H2 and TS3 4 wood.

    At the driving range I play from the mat and on the course play from the fairway. Because I'm used to hitting from the ground I find it easier to do that off the tee too.

    Rhian,

    Nothing less than a hybrid on our par 3's as they're all carry. Using a red castle tee height for these.

    I do find using a tee takes a little distance off my clubs and was thinking of trying off the deck as well on my next practice round.

    When I do get to a shorter par 3 where I have to use an iron my confidence is sub-zero as I never get to play these on my home course. Again perhaps I ought to in practice rounds off the forward tees.

    with irons from 9 upwards I use the tee, with wedges i just hit the grass slightly to get a hick and place the ball on top

    I saw this done the other day on a YouTube vid, I’ve never seen it before. Wasn’t sure if it would be legal in a comp?

    It is legal, Henrik Stenson sometimes does it with his wood as well
    Once I even saw Laura Davis doing it with the driver, as having some disput

    I’d tee it up on the fairway if I could. After finding it of coarse.!
