  1. Played yesterday and I have never known my track be soft underfoot. This was the first time in 18 years of membership I saw a ball plug in a green and my shot into the 10th that was just short (and would normally skip on) completely buried itself!

my club has been soggy for months, haven't really played it at all. been playing a lot of links golf thinking about switching clubs to a links course this year just seems so much better all year round
  3. Aaron,

Considered moving myself. Round here, of the links courses, Hoylake (as in Royal Liverpool) and Wallasey seem to have been largely OK but they are right on the front. Neither of them have anything remotely resembling a vacancy. Even Leasowe, which is all but on the beach, had seven holes closed. With that in mind, unless I take myself off into North Wales (which is almost like going on holiday) I'm a bit stuck.

    What are your options?

As wet as an otters pocket for months! It’s bordering on unplayable. The club is in a very difficult position as it needs the revenue but the course should really be closed.

I'm in the NW of England. Our course has been more closed than open since about September.
Occasionally, we have had the top end 9 holes of the course open but the other 9 is at a lower level and is very boggy. One of the members, out doing work on the trees, found half a dozen balls embedded in one fairway alone.
The Greens staff have worked very hard and made sure that all ditches, drains and run-offs are running but the volume of water has been biblical. We can only hope for some drying weather shortly.
Played a local links last week that is built on sand and only half of that - the seaward side - was open.
My favourite driving range is almost a lake - They've been hand picking range balls since September. What an awful job, day in, day out.
The weather has decimated bookings (and general attendance) for 6 months and I reckon many clubs will be struggling financially at the moment.
Have to hope better times are ahead

  8. Update
My club has closed holes 5-6-7-8 & 9 until further notice.
Seems we can't get the rough cutters out to cut the rough on those holes and the terrain is generally just too wet.
Clubhouse may be shut due to the virus but the course (well, 13 holes) will remain open, as will the pro shop.
We are now officially allowed to change shoes in the car park!!
    Difficult times...

We managed to get out yesterday, 16.3.20 was a nice day, but the course was a mud bath, even on a lot of the high parts of the course it was soggy, the greens were getting battered with pitch marks and the bunkers, oh dear. This was at Oulton Hall in Leeds. Hopefuuly we get some dry weather which will help.

Our course has been soggy in places for most of the winter but has mostly been open and playable allowing visitors as many neighbouring courses have been closed. Unfortunately buggies have been allowed and this has made pathways muddy and hasn't helped on the wet areas on the fairways and greens.

What I have noticed is holes becoming crowned as people walk around and pick up there balls which has made putting a lottery.

I am currently a member of 2 courses and both we only partially open at the weekend, 16 holes & 10 Holes.
We played 16 holes but it was an effort carrying in the conditions and it was raining for first 5 holes.
Balls were plugging on the fairways and rough, making it very hard to find at times.
Fortunately the greens were ok with only minor pitch marks, which was surprising.
Hopefully, next weekend end will be better as we have had a few sunny days or dry .

    Hi there Trevor.

Where do you play? played Three Rivers Friday and it was the first day it had been open since 8th Feb. still a lot of water on the course, and a lot of the greens looked like they had Fusarium on them. all holes were on mats as well.

Been playing over at Maldon quite a bit and they have been open with grass tees on all but 1 hole and greens are amazing. Only 9 hole course but plays you off 2 different tees that completely change the aspect and length of most of the holes.

    Ian
