Rust spots on shafts

  1. I have a set of 18 month old 718 AP1’s irons and a SM7 sand wedge. All of the shafts have different degrees of scarring from rust spots. The wedge is the worst.

I have contacted Titleist customer services to ask for advice, but have as yet not received a reply.

Has anyone else have the same issue and if so what did you do or who did you contact to get the issue rectified?

    Thanks

    Ian,

I believe that most Titleist UK employees have been off the last 8 weeks due to Covid19, they may be returning to work any day but I would assume they have a mountain of queries to get through. They will get back to you but as to when could be anyone's guess. Might be worth speaking to your local pro / or golf shop to see what they say as they may be able to contact their rep for advise.

    Regards

I’ve never had an issue with rust, perhaps as I live in a flat and keep my clubs in my bedroom. I always thoroughly dry them if I’ve been out in rain.
I’m not sure what the position on this e were will be as there is no way to prove that you’ve not left the clubs damp in your car boot, or properly dried after use. Also, the clubs are 18 months old, so out of any warranty period.
I would initially contact the point of sale who can then liaise with Titleist. Obviously, in the current climate, you may need to wait a little longer for a response.

Where do you store your clubs?
  5. Ian,
Have you tried AutoSol? You can get it from all sorts of places, even on-line. It usually takes off "mild" rust.
It come in a tube and comes out like a paste. Rub it on gently in a circular sort of motion - polish it off with a soft cloth.
Even if it doesn't work, you can use the paste as a metal polish.

When cleaning I have always sprayed some WD40 onto a piece of kitchen roll and lightly applied to the shafts.

  7. Another vote for Very thin wipe of WD-40 on shafts of new clubs Just to give them some protection -also after playing in rain or dewy conditions -bit extreme I know
Also make sure I keep clubs indoors as I have found from previous experience keeping in garage Doesn’t help
  8. Agree WD40 works great on rust
