Ball Fitting

  1. Hi,

I am not sure if a Pro V1x or Pro V1 is the correct ball for me. I have been playing between these 2 for sometime and can't work out which is more suited!

I can't appear to find any fitting events for golf balls - but see them on YouTube etc.

I had the virtual one a few years ago but it didn't really help as I want someone to watch me and get all the correct data etc.

I prefer the V1x for around the green but as it goes higher and spins more is this losing me distance on the irons/driver etc- this is why I want the data to go with it.

I know the Woburn performance centre does this but at a cost of £500ish that's not really for me, especially given the thousands of pounds I have already spent with Titleist (everything in and including my bag is Titleist, including expensive limited scotty)

Will Titleist be doing any ball fitting events in the UK.

    Thanks

    David

There is no perfect answer as to which one you should choose. It will be based on your own personal feelings for what will help you score the best. Many players in the professional ranks are playing either the ProV1 or ProV1x based on what they want to emphasize in their game. Some people will give up a few yards to have more spin. Some people rely more on trajectory to stop the ball so less spin works for them. Some people just like to feel of the cover as they hit the shot one one over the other. If you don't want to spend the money on a personal ball fitting, your method of trying both until you decide which one fills in more of your personal needs is a good method to pick a ball. Some people even bounce back and forth based on course conditions or winter versus summer but that never works for me. The Titleist ball experts suggest sticking with one and that's what I try to do. If you like the ProV1x on your scoring shots, adjust your driver settings until you get that lower flight that will maximize distance. I even went from 10 degree to 9 degree so the ProV1x would flight down on drives but stay high on short irons. Best of luck.
  3. Thanks for your reply, it's not that I don't want to pay but £500 is a bit steep just for a ball fitting- I know the Woburn place is more aimed at a full bag fitting to get the full value.

I know exactly what you are saying but need the spin/launch numbers and someone that knows exactly how to interpret them.

Watch for Titleist future events in the UK. We had one a few years ago at Pinehurst and the afternoon included ball testing between ProV1 and ProV1x with three hitting stations, driver, 7 iron, and wedge. All had TrackMan and Titleist staffers to advise you on the results. When the 2023 line of ProV's come out, there will likely be some similar opportunities without doing the all-day full fitting scenario. Even doing that testing in Pinehurst and seeing results for driver, 7 iron, and wedge, I had to take the info and decide how to apply it to what I wanted most out of my game. It is always going to be a compromise between feel, spin, distance, and trajectory. The data is the data. I will admit, I knew I needed to go ProV1x way before the actual ball fitting but just could not get used to the firmer feel, especially putting. Once the Titleist rep validated the need, I just gave away all my ProV1's and forced myself to get used to the ProV1x. Glad I finally did. Hope you figure out which one works best for you and have many more enjoyable rounds out there. Cheers.

Had an hour and half ball fitting yesterday at Woburn performance centre.

Amazing venue and the fitters were brilliant.

I was asked a lot of questions on what I wanted from my game and also my perception of the different balls

You go from 4 stations, green side pitch, 60yard, 7iron and driver.

Greens side was all about feel and control

60yard start with trackman looking at flight and spin. At this point I was blind testing all titleist balls but was narrowed down v1 and v1x

Moving to next point, fitter said angle of descent on 7 iron was too shallow and not producing quite enough spin on v1, switching to v1x pushed my height up and angle into the green to right numbers. Carry was similar but much more control.

Again asked a lot more questions at this point.

I was fitted into pro v1x At this point.

Moving to driver we didn’t hit many but were still testing both to check the difference and v1x was again sat it the right window of spin and peak height which reaffirmed the fitting.

It was an amazing experience, very educational and busted quite a few myths and my own perceptions about golf balls

  6. How much did you pay for that?
  7. Thank you- that's exactly what I'm after- how much did you pay for that?

I’ve heard the guys at Titleist do online fitting and local ball fitting sessions as well. There was one in Edinburgh just before Christmas.

Will posted this on another thread….

Schedule your personal golf ball consultation at the link below to start the process and see which ball will perform best for your game.

  10. Exactly what I was going to put Bruce.

However, there are no online appointments open as of yet for January but keep an eye out for them.

Our ball fitting team will also be returning to courses across the UK in the New Year to go through the fitting process in person as well!

  11. Hi Will/Bruce,

I have one of these but was not correct for me. I need to know my peak height, spin rates etc etc

I'm eager to find an in person one so let's see what I can find in 2023.

    Thanks
