SM9 or SM10

  1. My SM7’s were definitely overdue for replacement as they have done four years service at c. 40 rounds a year.

I have been watching the price of SM9’s drop as the SM10 approaches- I was debating on waiting for the 10’s and reading the reviews to see if they are worth the wait. However, I decided the price differential doesn’t look like it would justify the wait as optically the 10’s clearly demonstrate some evolution rather than a more radical shift. I was also worried that as soon as the 10’s launch, I’d lose the ability to get the custom options in the SM9’s to mirror my current SM7’s. My new ones arrived today - I will also be getting a barely used 60 degree too from a playing partner. I am very much looking forward to using them and seeing how much extra spin I will now get.

I just wondered whether other TT members have done the same or are just waiting to buy the “latest and greatest”?

Very good question but unfortunately for me, I had already been customer fit for a set of SM9’s so I’m going to game them for the time being.

Fingers crossed they work out well for you. Good luck with them.

Well I have not, I just bought a new SM9 5610S and couldn't be happier. Can they really be that different ?

To be fair most wedges in the last 5/10 years haven’t changed in how they play or feel getting the right grinds/lofts or shafts that get the best out of them an coming with your irons for the gaps.
I’d say the biggest issue is how much time you put into practicing with them.

Evening. I’m looking at replacing at least one wedge and I’ll be going down the route of the cheaper sm9 rather than the 10’s. The price difference could be the price of a dozen balls or a glove. More bang for yer buck.
  6. Hi,

I had the same dilemma but decided to go for SM9 due to the large price difference. Thankfully they had the correct specs available for custom fit orders still.
  7. Just had SM9 in black - wouldn’t change them for the world and there is never much difference usually
  8. I had 3 x sm9 in raw and have just received 3 x sm9 black custom fit to same spec shafts as new T150 irons. Waiting on weather changing so can get out and use them

Like many I had the same dilemma when 9's came out as my 7's are really showing their age especially as I used them for chipping practice during lockdown. as we had compacted bunkers on our course the lower bounce 52 got a lot of use.

Unfortunately I've not been able to find the 9's that have been offer with my specs (previously fitted by Titleist) in brushed steel.

Hopefully the price of the new SM10's won't have too much of a price increase or I can get a deal buying 2.

I got new SM9 fitted wedges 6 months ago and played very little golf last season, I pre-ordered my SM10 and they arrived last week.
    Can’t wait to use them.
I always found each new model to be better than the previous one.
No matter what you choose you’ll love the vokey wedges ️‍♂️

I had SM8 wedges but attended the SM10 TT fitting. I felt the SM10 were better in terms of a slightly straighter leading edge and all sat slightly better to my eye.

But it’s only slight differences to my eye. one of the main reasons I went SM10 rather than 9’s was 1 of my specs was the new 54M and my Golf OCD doesn’t like me mixing wedge versions ‍♂️

I can't imagine there's a great deal of difference in a wedge Vs wedge comparison, but the newer product lines usually offer more options when it comes to loft / bounce / grind configurations. I'll be picking up a new 60 for the season and likely to go down the SM10 route - my specs aren't exactly ready to go (PX 6.0, +1/2 inch, 2 degrees upright, +1 layer of tape) which means a custom order, and I'd imagine that places will no longer be building SM9s, moreso just moving current stock.
