  1. I need a lighter shaft; I think my irons have a nippon 90 oz weight "rifle shaft (Im not sure of the model designation). What shaft would you recommend for wedges?

I need a stiff shaft; I was thinking of the true temper dynamic gold AMT red (93 grams?)

Personally, I believe in the stock shaft that vokey puts out in his wedges. In my T100's I play a KBS Tour 130 gram shaft but don't swing my wedges in the same manner. I have the new SM8's with the stock wedge shaft (have always played the stock wedge shaft) and they are perfect for flighting the ball and controlling spin and distance.
It's a littel softer than a traditional extra stiff or tour shaft, but that is what allows your to hit different shots. My advice would be to work with different attack angles and speeds to help with distance and spin.

When I was fitted by Bob Vokey and his team for my wedges, I was playing stiff irons and they put me in regular shafts in my wedges. Go lighter. My recommendation is to go get fitted. You will not be sorry. This was a special TT event at Pinehurst in the spring of 2019.

It really is personal in how you use wedges. While I have the T400's with 50 g shafts, the Vokey team at the TT Pinehurst put me in the stock TT S200 (129 g) for wedges. My previous had NP95/95 g shafts. I almost never use 48/54 for full shots and never for a 58. I really like the feel of the added weight close to greens, but it doesn't cost me distance. So the same team that put Chuck in an R flex, they put me in a heavier stiff flex. But we use them differently.

Whenever I start thinking what should work for me, I'm not paying attention to someone smart enough to know. Try to find a fitter that can work with you on turf and from bunkers typical of where you play most. It solves all the grind selections and shaft choices for you.

I second Chuck's sentiment to get fitted. I did and our club pro recommended sticking with the same as my iron shafts (Project X rifle 6.5). I'm very happy with the performance on all ranges of shots, don't have issues with spin or lack thereof. More so me making a mistake on a mishit.

"Agree with all who say get fitted". In talking with team Vokey, they said that most pros have shafts in their wedges that are lighter and not as stiff, than what is in their regular irons. They seem to want more feel in their wedges and I can see that. A fitting is necessary in all your clubs....with respect to all opinions.....
  8. I play the NSPro 950 in irons, but my 54 and 58 (both at 35.25") have DGS400 shafts. However they are 8 iron shafts, so softer.

Have to agree with the other posts on here - it is a personal preference but getting a fitting will allow you to try out different shafts, lofts, etc. I am planning to get fit for wedges this year - I will post an update after I wrap up and place my order.

Fitting is the way to go. I have played the stock WedgeWorks shaft in my Vokeys for years, but recently had a miss short or right. in my fitting the rep had me hit an SM8 with at KBS Tour Stiff shaft, and it was much more solid feel for me, more weight at the bottom of my swing that felt like I was able to get through the ball better. I was still able to back off for less distance or go harder for more. To make sure the feeling carried over to the course, I picked up a 58-08 SM6 with a KBS Tour Stiff in it, and after playing about 5 rounds with it, I will probably make the switch in my other wedges as well. For comparison, I play Project X 6.0 rifles in my AP2's.

In the end, its all about what feels best for you and what you want to do with it.

Fitting is certainly the best way to go- KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 and Modus3 wedge shafts are great shafts to look at, however, a wedge shaft in your current shaft model can work just as well. I have just ordered a Nippon NS Pro 950 GH NEO- 98 grams in stiff flex.
