Ideal setup for new Vokey's

    I currently play super old SM4's and have been ready to buy new ones for some time now.

    I have tried the wedge selector tool on Vokey.com probably hundreds of times and have checked countless pros WITBs to get an ideal setup for pros with similar swings/thoughts.

    I purchased a 54-11M and a 60-07S when they were released and did not really know anything about what I got, I just purchased them off based off of the bounce I thought would work for me.

    I would prefer your input on here rather than a fitter that does it indoors on mats or on a sandy/chewed up driving range that would be nearby. I also do not want to go to an expensive fitter at a resort as I feel like I can figure it out here.

    I live in South Florida and some courses can have soft turf in the fairway, firm turf around the greens, or firm fairways and soft turf around the greens. Same applies to traps - beachy traps with no bottom or hardpan clay-like lie. And can change all within the same course. I play public courses and not always perfectly manicured ones haha

    I play a 48* blade pitching wedge and am debating going: 52-12F, 56-10S, and 60-08M. I also was thinking of going with a 56-14F - my only fear is that I will have too much bounce for when I play a firmer course and kind of want to use the 56/60 interchangeably for the grind/bounce. My yardages with current setup is PW - 140, 54* - 115, 60* - 90

    The question that bothers me is "do you take shallow or deep divots" - that depends on the course conditions. If it is firm, they will be shallow and if it is soft, they will be deep.

    A shot that is difficult for me would be a short, into-the-grain lie or an extremely thin grass / 'sandy/dusty/dry' type lie around the green. It always feels like the club digs immediately regardless of what bounce I use. I have no problem with firm turf or plush lies as I feel like I can always nip it fine. I always preferred using my 60* but now started trying my 54 to get out of the squirrelly lies and think that going from a 54 to a 52 and 56 would help better with versatility/grinds when the lies are awkward for me.

    If you play primarily here in Florida, where conditions can change significantly from day to day (or hour to hour at times), then I would suggest high bounce wedges for your fairway wedges, and a lower bounce 60 degree wedge for the times you do get a bare or tighter lie.

    I was previously playing 50.08, 54,10, and 60.08 before moving here full time, and was recently re-fit into 50.12 and 54.14 because of the issues I was also having during summer conditions (SOFT) from the fairway, and also with uphill, into the grain pitch shots with the 54. The club would tend to dig and grab, often leading to coming up short on run-out. The 14 degrees of bounce helped significantly. I stuck with the 60.08 because i was so used to the way it played i didn't want to have to re-learn anything with it, and I use it mainly with the face open, so it works fine for me as is.

    That said, I worked with a Titleist fitter over a couple hours to find the wedges that worked best for me. There are PLENTY of fitters throughout South Florida... I would highly recommend having the piece of mind and just spending the time (and possibly little bit of money) to know you have the right clubs in your hands. Small price to pay for confidence!

    I use the 56.14F and do not encounter any difficulty in firmer conditions. The one exception is bunker shots, most of the time the 56.14F is ideal for normal bunker conditions, however with most courses not raking and with them also being relatively wet still, there is not much sand in a lot of bunkers. The 56.14F has been benched for my 60.04L and that works beautifully with our current state of bunkers. From faiways, rough to hardpan no problem at all with the 56.14F.

    Do you use your 56 primarily around the green for short chip shots or do you still use the 60, or is it dependent on the lie? I like using my 60.07 but feel like I'd never be able to use the 60.04 unless it was perfect conditions or hard traps

    The 56 is the only non-negotiable loft in my bag. I use it for 80-90% of shots inside 50 yards. I play in the PNW so wet conditions are normal, but things bake out quite a bit in the summer. I can hit it from any yardage, any lie, any trajectory etc. The 60 has its moments, but it only comes out if the 56 is not the best option.

    Thanks for the input. So you are saying "60.08" as a the 'low' bounce option and not the 60.04? I've hit a friend of mines 60.04 and it was nearly unusable for me on normal conditions unless it was hardpan.

    I could go 52.12F 56.14F 60.08M but I feel like I'm missing something by not having a grind on the 56 haha.

    I see theres a fitter 45min away from me that I may end up going to now. Thank you for your feedback!

    60.04 is much too low for me, especially in Florida conditions. Bermuda and Paspalum is too grabby for that little bounce... would be fine for my up north on bent / rye grass, but ain't happening here.

    I like the 60.08 a lot, and it's versatile enough to work out of about any conditions. It's also my primary greenside bunker club, unless I have a longer shot that needs run-out, in which I'll use the 54.

    If you need relief grind on your 56, you might look at the new D grind. I tried it in the 54 degree, but it just grabbed a little too much for me into the grain.

    There is a saying about that 60* wedge and playing with it, 90 percent of it is mental and the other 10 percent is in your head. My 60* and I divorced years ago and have never looked back. My wedges are gapped 5* apart and that has worked for me. 58* is the most lofted, then 53*, 48*, 43*(P). Once I was fitted for my AP series way back I have played with the wedges that came with the sets and added one Vokey wedge. Has worked well for me after getting fitted, right setup and shafts. Not everyone can, but I am fortunate enough to be able to and it has helped my game immensely. Am now playing the T300s and do enjoy them. My 58.12D works well out of the sand as well from 65 yards.

    I always carried 46-50-54-58. But I just decided to try a new experiment this season and take decision-making out of my short game.

    I have am carrying my AP2 PW at 46 and am going Vokey, 50 & 56 splitting the 54-58. Now I use the 56 for everything and it is better for me so far (index 5.4)
