A Major Triumph for I.K. Kim in Scotland

“I feel quite uplifted. Yeah, I think I managed it quite well.”

This is how Titleist golf ball loyalist In-Kyung Kim (Pro V1x) summed up her feelings after she captured the Ricoh Women's British Open for her first major title.

Kim closing with a 1-under-par 71 at Kingsbarns Golf Links in Scotland en route to an 18-under-par 270 victory total, two shots clear of fellow Pro V1x loyalist Jodi Ewart Shadoff, who fired a final round 8-under-par 64.

Titleist golf ball loyalists Georgia Hall (Pro V1x) and Caroline Masson (Pro V1x) were in a three-way tie for third, as five of the six players who finished among the top three and ties trusted Titleist golf balls for their success.

For Kim, who entered the final round with the overnight lead, the pivotal shot came at the par-4 17th hole. With Ewart-Shadoff already safely in the clubhouse, Kim faced long approach - into the wind and over water to a difficult green. Kim hit a perfect 5-wood from a downhill lie that stopped 15 feet from the hole. She two-putted for par and made a textbook par on 18 to seal the victory.

The win marks the seventh career LPGA Tour title for I.K. Kim and her third of the season. She also captured the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June and the Marathon Classic last month.

It’s been a remarkable personal journey for the 29-year-old from South Korea, who overcame a highly-publicized major loss at the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship. As Kim explained, missing a short putt to win that tournament was painful, but it was also a learning experience that allowed her to become the person and player she is today.

“I feel like things happen to help, you know?” Kim shared. “Missing a putt is not the worst thing that could happen in life, and that's how I look at it. When I make a three-footer, I'm quite rewarded now. Like I don't take it for granted, either. When I make a 3-footer, I'm really excited about making the putt. I think that's the reason that I finished (on top) today."

Congratulations, I.K.!

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS

This week at the Ricoh Women's British Open, Titleist was once again the overwhelming golf ball choice, with 110 of players trusting a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, 10 times the nearest competitor with 11 and more than all competitors combined.
