Langer claims 29th Champions Tour title at Boeing Classic

It was an all-Titleist golf ball playoff at the Boeing Classic where Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) made a 3-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to top fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists Woody Austin (Pro V1x) and Kevin Sutherland (Pro V1x).

The win, which came one day after his 59th birthday, marks the second Boeing Classic title for Langer (his first Boeing victory came in 2010). This also marks the fourth victory of the season for Langer and ties him for second-most in PGA Tour Champions history with 29 senior circuit wins.

“(Winning) will get harder,” said Langer after holing the winning putt. “I am going to get shorter, sooner or later — and some of these younger guys hit it past me. But it is more than length — you need to be precise, and have the nerve. There’s still a bit of life left in me.”

Langer birdied the par-5 18th in regulation at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge for a 5-under-par 67 to match Austin and Sutherland at 13-under 203.

Austin also had a 67, while Sutherland fired a final round 64, the best round of the day, to move 14 spots up the leaderboard and into the playoff.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Gene Sauers (Pro V1), the second-round leader and U.S. Senior Open winner two weeks ago, shot a 72 to finish a shot out of the playoff, and Kirk Triplett (Pro V1x) was solo 5th, as Titleist golf ball loyalists secured the top five positions on the leaderboard.

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS

Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the Boeing Classic with 57 players in the field of 81 trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than five times the nearest competitor with 8.

Titleist Vokey Design Wedges were also the field favorite in the approach, sand and lob wedge (47) category.

The win marks the 16th for Titleist players on the 2016 PGA TOUR Champions, eight times the nearest competitor with two.
