Mackenzie prevails in marathon playoff

Titleist golf ball loyalist Brock Mackenzie (Pro V1x)prevailed in a marathon seven-hole, three player, sudden death playoff, which included fellow Pro V1x golf ball loyalist Samuel Del Val, to win the National Capital Open.

“I’m exhausted,” said Mackenzie after the victory. “Winning is hard. Today, probably proved it more than anything.”

The win marked the third career Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada victory for Mackenzie.

Mackenzie closed with a 3-under-par 68 to make the playoff, and then birdied the seventh extra hole, which advanced him to second on the Order of Merit with three events remaining.

“I made a really nice birdie on No. 18 and then all of a sudden the playoff started and chaos kind of ensued,” Mackenzie said. “I thought I was going to win about three different times in that playoff but winning just seems like it gets harder and harder on this tour. The quality of guys goes up every year and you have to be that much better. I don’t take it for granted.”

The trio finished regulation at 15-under-par 269.

Beginning the day three shots off the lead, the former University of Washington standout is now in strong position to finish in The Five and earn a promotion to the Web.com Tour, where he played in 2015.
