The 2016-2017 season is in the books. In a year full of breakthrough victories and major triumphs, Titleist was once again the overwhelming #1 ball for more players and more champions. This season, the game's finest playersrelied on a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball 22,538 times, more than six times the nearest competitor with 3,226 and more than all competitors combined.
During this same time, Titleist golf ball players recorded 166 worldwide victories, more than six times the nearest competitor with 27.
Let's take a look at some highlights from the past year as we look forward to the 2017-2018 season...
PGA TOUR
Justin Thomas (PGA Tour Player of the Year, 5-time Winner) - CIMB Classic / SBS Tournament of Champions / Sony Open in Hawaii / PGA Championship / Dell Technologies Championship: Titleist Pro V1x golf ball, 917D3/9.5° driver, 917F3/15° and 915Fd/18° fairway metals, 716 CB (4) and 718 MB (5-9) irons, Vokey Design SM6 pitching (46.08 F grind), gap (52.12 F grind), sand (56.14 F grind) and lob (60.10 K grind) wedges, Scotty Cameron Futura X5.5 putter
- Titleist golf ball players stepped into the winners circle 22 times during the 2016-2017 PGA Tour season, compared to nine for the nearest competitor.
- It was a breakout year for Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas (Pro V1x), who won five times in 2016-2017. He captured his first major crown at the PGA Championship, added his first FedExCup playoff victory (at the Dell Technologies Championship), finished runner-up at the Tour Championship to become the FedExCup champion and was named the 2016-2017 PGA Tour Player of the Year.
- Thomas jumped out to the fastest start of any player on Tour, winning three tournaments before February. Thomas successfully defended his CIMB Classic title during the late 2016 shoulder season and then went on to win back-to-back tournaments during the Tour's Hawaiian swing. Thomas's amazing streak was highlighted by the 59 he shot in the first round of the Sony Open. He became the youngest player in history to break 60 on Tour.
- In June, Thomas recorded his first top-10 at a U.S Open, equaling the U.S Open record for low round with his third-round 63. One month later he won his first major championship title at the 99th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, coming from two strokes behind to eventually win by two shots. The win marked his fifth PGA Tour victory in his 90th start.
- Thomas entered the FedExCup Playoffs second in the standings. He retained his position in the top five with T6 finish at The Northern Trust and followed that up with a three-stroke victory over fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Jordan Spieth at the Dell Technologies Championship.
- Jordan Spieth (Pro V1x) also enjoyed multiple wins in 2016-2017. Spieth captured the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and then won the Travelers Championship by holing a dramatic bunker shot to prevail in a sudden-death playoff. Spieth rode that momentum to Royal Birkdale, where he seized the Claret Jug for his third victory of the season (see European Tour, below). Spieth finished 2nd in the FedExCup race after posting three top-10 finishes in the first three Playoff events.
- This year, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans made a significant change, adopting a 2-man best-ball format. Titleist Brand Ambassador Cameron Smith and Titleist golf ball loyalist Jonas Blixt both trusted a Pro V1x golf ball and teamed up to win the revamped event in exciting playoff fashion.
- Titleist Brand Ambassador Cameron Smith (Pro V1x) earned his maiden victory on the PGA Tour this season (at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans), as did Titleist golf ball loyalist Mackenzie Hughes (Pro V1x / RSM Classic).
- Titleist Brand Ambassador Russell Henley (Pro V1x) and Titleist golf ball loyalists Kyle Stanley (Pro V1) and Jhonattan Vegas (Pro V1) all made equipment changes this year, trusting their games to a Titleist golf ball (and in Henley's case, full sets of Titleist clubs tee-to-green, as well). The choice paid off for all three, as Henley won the Shell Houston Open, Stanley won the Quicken Loans National and Vegas won the RBC Canadian Open.

TITLEIST CLUB HIGHLIGHTS
- Of the 22 PGA Tour victories recorded by Titleist golf ball players this season, 10 were achieved by Titleist Brand Ambassadors who also relied on full bags of Titleist golf club equipment for their success.
- Titleist unveiled new 718 prototype irons at the Quicken Loans National (as well as the European Tour's HNA Open de France) and new 818 prototype hybrids two weeks later at the John Deere Classic and the European Tour's Scottish Open.
- Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas switched to new 718 MB irons (5-9) and captured his first major at this year's PGA Championship. Titleist Brand Ambassador Jordan Spieth put a new 718 T-MB 3-iron in the bag shorlty before this year's Open Championship. His amazing recovery shot with the new club on No. 13 at Royal Birkdale helped turn the momentum around in the final round as he claimed his first Claret Jug. Titleist Brand Ambassador Rafa Cabrera Bello also won with new 718's, capturing the Scottish Open the first time he used his new 718 MB irons in competition.
- This year's tour seeding and performance validation effort is also notable because it marks the introduction of a brand new prototype iron model from Titleist - the 718 AP3. Titleist Brand Ambassador Jason Bohn made the switch to a full set of AP3 irons (4-PW) and several players added AP3 long irons to their setups, including Titleist Brand Ambassador Jimmy Walker (AP3 3-iron ), Titleist Brand Ambassador Ben An (AP3 3-iron ) and Titleist Brand Ambassador Bobby Wyatt(AP3 4-iron).
- In June, Titleist Brand Ambassador Jason Dufner played some inspired golf, trusting a Pro V1x golf ball and a full bag of Titleist clubs as he captured The Memorial Tournament. Dufner drove the ball exceptionally well with his 917D2 driver (10.5°) at Murifield Village, averaging 299 yards off the tee and hitting 73% of fairways. Dufner's win represented the 30th victory across the worldwide professional tours by players relying on a Titleist 917 driver. Since then, players trusting a 917D2 or 917D3 driver have gone on to capture 16 more worldwide titles...and counting.
- Master Craftsman Bob Vokey was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame this summer and his Vokey Design wedges were far and away the most trusted wedges on Tour this season. Nearly half of all wedges in play this year were Vokey Design (47%), more than three times the nearest competitor.
- Of all the Titleist pitching wedges played on Tour this season, 63% were Vokey Design models. This is a 7% increase from 2015 and clear validation of the Progressive Center of Gravity technology found in Vokey SM6 wedges.
- Players trusting Vokey Design wedges captured 21 PGA Tour victories this year, including The Players Championship, three of the four major championships contested this year, three FedExCup playoff events and they were the choice of Titleist Brand Ambassador, FedExCup champion and Player of the Year Justin Thomas.
- Once again, Scotty Cameron putters were the most trusted putters on the PGA Tour, topping the equipment counts at every event on Tour this season. During that time, players trusting a Scotty Cameron putter won 20 PGA Tour events.
- This season, Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas worked with Scotty Cameron on a new putter that would provide the longer sight lines and high-MOI benefits of Scotty's Futura models, but that would also feature more toe-hang to complement Justin's putting stroke. The result was the Scotty Cameron Futura 5.5M, a mid mallet chassis with a shorter shaft bend that Thomas used to capture his first major at the PGA Championship, win the FedExCup and earn Player of the Year honors. Recently, the Futura 5.5M joined the Scotty Cameron Futura lineup and is available in golf shops now.

EUROPEAN TOUR
Jordan Spieth (Winner) - 146th Open Championship: Titleist Pro V1x golf ball, 915D2/9.5° driver, 915F/15° fairway metal, prototype 718 T-MB (3), 716 T-MB (4) and 716 AP2 (5-9) irons, Vokey Design SM6 pitching (46.06 F grind), gap (52.08 F grind), sand (56.10 S grind) and lob (60.04 L grind) wedges, Scotty Cameron 009 putter
- Players trusting Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls won 22 times during the 2016-2017 European Tour season, compared to five for the nearest competitor.
- With his dramatic win at this year's Open Championship, Titleist Brand Ambassador Jordan Spieth became only the second golfer in history to win three of four major championships before his 24th birthday. Trusting a Pro V1x golf ball and Titleist golf clubs through the bag at Royal Birkdale, Spieth was the only player to fire four consecutive rounds in the 60’s (65-69-65-69). He played his final five holes in 5-under-par to close with 1-under-par 69, good for a 12-under-par 268 victory total, three shots clear of his playing partner and nearest competitor.
- In addition to his strong 4th-place showing at this year's U.S. Open, Titleist golf ball loyalist Tommy Fleetwood (Pro V1x) won twice this season on the European Tour, capturing the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January and the HNA Open de France in late June.
- Titleist Brand Ambassador Renato Paratore (Pro V1x) held off the challenges of fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists Chris Wood (Pro V1x) and defending champion Matthew Fitzpatrick (Pro V1x) to claim the Nordea Masters for his first career European Tour title. The 20-year-old Italian became the youngest winner on the European Tour since 2013.
- Also celebrating their first victories on the European Tour this year are Titleist golf ball loyalists Dylan Fritelli (Pro V1 / Lyoness Open), Matt Wallace (Pro V1x / Open de Portugal), Jordan Smith (Pro V1 / Porsche European Open), Jason Norris (Pro V1x / Fiji International), Julian Suri (Pro V1x/ Made in Denmark), Romain Wattel (Pro V1x / KLM Open), Lucas Bjerregaard (Pro V1 / Portugal Masters) and Titleist Brand Ambassador Paul Dunne (Pro V1x / British Masters).

These wins marked the first career major titles for each player.
- In addition to her win at the Women's British Open, Titleist golf ball loyalist In-Kyung Kim (Pro V1x) captured both the ShopRite LPGA Classic and the Marathon Classic, joining Pro V1 golf ball loyalist So Yeon Ryu (ANA LPGA Inspiration, NW Arkansas Championship), Brooke Henderson (Meijer LPGA Classic, New Zealand Women's Open) and Sung Hyun Park (U.S. Women's Open, Canadian Pacific Women's Open) with multiple wins this season.
- When Sung Hyun Park (Pro V1x) won the U.S. Women's Open earlier this month, it also marked the first LPGA Tour title of her career. Park joins Danielle Kang (Pro V1x), whose major victory at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship was also her maiden LPGA Tour victory.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS
Bernhard Langer (Winner) - Mitsubishi Electric Championship / Regions Tradition / KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, Senior Open Championship, PURE Insurance Championship: Titleist Pro V1 golf ball

- Titleist golf ball loyalist Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) is leading the tour once again with five victories. He earned his record ninth career senior major with a one-shot victory at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, becoming the first player in history to win all five Senior Major Championships. A month later he won his ssecond major of the season at the Senior Open Championship.
- At Pebble Beach Golf Links, Langer (Pro V1) cruised to a three-shot victory at the PURE Insurance Championship, his fifth victory of the year and the 34th of his PGA TOUR Champions career. The win marks the first for the German since he turned 60 last month.

Later in the season, McCarron grabbed two more titles, at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open and the Shaw Charity Classic.
- Also enjoying a major victory this season was Titleist golf ball loyalist Kenny Perry (Pro V1x), who captured his second U.S. Senior Open crown with a record-setting score of 16-under-par 264 at Salem Country Club, eclipsing the previous mark of 267, which he set during his 2013 victory at Omaha Country Club.
