Now that the AVX is more readily available, I hope to find one soon to try it out. I like the profile!
  2. AVX is a great ball. The yellow is great for those on the “senior tour”! Improved my iron distances and I too have dropped one iron in most cases.
  3. I’ve played the ProV1 since it’s been available and absolutely loved it... BUT, being a Florida resident (presently 6.2 hdcp)the AVX was available to me, I will say this about the AVX : ABSOLUTELY THE BEST GOLF BALL EVER!!!! It is 5-8 yds longer off the tee, one to one & half clubs longer on my irons, beautiful soft touch around the greens and it is a soft feel off the club face , whereas when I hit the ProV1 you can feel the hard hit!!! I’ve 3 dozen here in The Villages, & I just ordered 3 more “customized” dozen!!! I will play this ball until Titleist comes out with an “improved version”(but I don’t believe that is possible) or until I croak!!!
  4. AVX is the “Best golf you can buy” .. been playing it for 4 months here in The Villages, Fl !!!! Always been a ProV player & gave all my ProV’s away...AVX carries a solid club longer with my irons, 5-10 yds farther off my Driver, and a beautiful softfeel around the greens...
  5. So.....got a dozen of the AVX yesterday and put them in play today. Ball is extremely different than the Pro V1 for me. Starts round playing the first four holes with the AVX. Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Double Bogey. Switched back to the Pro V1 on the next hole, and went, Par, Birdie, Par, Birdie, Birdie. AVX flies WAY lower....not much spin (goodbye fade/cut shot). Felt “ok” with the putter, but almost too soft. I will be giving the other 3 sleeves away as the AVX is just not for me. Was excited to try them out, but they just didn’t fit me correctly. Ball performs as advertised, just not for me.

I played the AVX & ProV1 yesterday side by side. The AVX is at least one club longer for me with my irons which is important since I have lost distance as I age (67 yrs old in 3 weeks). May be slightly longer off the driver too. I definitely like the AVX best now.
  7. I'm a 0 handicap for reference. I taught myself to play in the 80's...with balata balls and 7 degree drivers. So, I have a steep angle of attack - that's how one hit the ball farther back then, by compressing the ball a lot and getting it to spin to stay airborne. Today's game/equipment/technology is designed to 'knuckle' the ball to make it go farther. The AVX, like all tour balls being struck with 9 irons on down, performs this task very well.

The greatest attribute the AVX has it that it spins WAY less than the V1 and V1x, especially with wedges in hand, while retaining some feel. It's not as soft on chip shots, putts, etc., but for me, it's made a huge difference when hitting full lob wedges as an example, or sand wedges. I don't have to hit those shots as precise with soft arms, I can just hit full shots at portions of the green and know the ball isn't spinning 20 or 30 feet back. I can get to back pins much easier these days.

4 months ago, I was a 2 handicap (and playing the Bridgestone B330 trying to find a less spinning ball with just a little bit of feel) - just being able to stop spinning my wedges so much has improved my game that much. More GIR, less chips, a par or two more per round. I love this ball!

    Thanks for the clarification Abby!
Was always under the impression that the Pro V1 was higher spin than Pro V1x now I know why it didn’t suit my game when I tested the v1x
  11. Great information...I plan to try the AVX very soon.

I don't actually use just one ball, I use the Pro V1x when the wind is light and temps are good. In the winter time or in higher winds I use the Pro V1 so that I can flight and control the ball better. Try them all and see which one feels and works better for you. Most of all, remember to have fun!
  14. I have found the AVX to be almost a club longer one my long irons. Also, haven't noticed much issue holding greens from a lack of spin. LOVE AVX.
  15. I’ve played the ProV1x for years. I’m 59 now (swing speed 96 w/driver) and have been professionally fitted. but I’m excellent shape and a 15 hdcp on a 127 slope course. However, I want softer feel than V1X and more distance than the ProV1........do you guys think the AVX is the ball for me to try? BTW—-it’s 15 degrees here in NW Ohio and golf season is still 8-10 weeks away.......if I could gain 10+ yards and have the soft feel of a V1 I’d be sold.

With the recent launch of the new 2019 ProV's how do they compare to the AVX? It seems like this latest release of ProV is a year earlier. Should we expect an update of the AVX before the end of 2019? I switch to the AVX in the fall. I really like the ball. Needing less spin and a lower ball flight the AVX checked the boxes.

I have played the AVX almost exclusively since well before it was released to the entire US. (Since Nov. 2017, actually.) Over that time I have surmised some things about it through use, which seem to have been backed up by much of the feedback I have heard from others. I would really like to see if one of my theories about the ball is true. I am starting to believe that, generally speaking, the faster the swing speed, the less distance benefit from the AVX. And, the overall feedback seems to support this. Again, generally speaking. I don't have enough specific data to say that for certain.

I noticed right off the bat, that I got added distance off the tee and off my irons as well. There was no question. The way the ball popped off the clubface was very obvious immediately. 2nd, the ball cut through the wind better than any ball I had ever played. But, these benefits were initially experienced in colder temps and often breezy conditions. As a result, I fell hard for this ball. I moved my supply of Pro V1s to the back of my locker and started playing solely AVX. Once summer came, I was fully committed to the AVX. However, I don't know if I saw AS MUCH obvious difference in the warmer conditions as I did in the winter. It doesn't matter, as I still love the AVX, and I certainly didn't lose distance with it in summer. I just don't feel I was gaining the extra 10 yards off the tee or 5 off my irons in the summer over a Pro V. Maybe a little extra, but not enough to clearly see it. Even so, AVX is still my ball.

As a result of my own experiences, combined with some of the reviews I have read here and all over the internet, I am now curious as to what types of players have switched to the AVX, relative to handicap, swing speed, age, etc. So many in these forums and all over the net have replied that the ball was either great, or else, it was not for them. But what is not always clear is what type of player they are.

My theory is that the guys who swing fast enough that they NEED an X-Stiff shaft, are not seeing as much a distance difference with the AVX as those of us in the 85-100 mph range. My swing (like I would bet is the case with most poeple's swings) is not as fast in winter/cold as it is in summer. Consequently, the design of the AVX works better for me in winter than in summer, though even in summer, I get some benefit.

For the record, I am a 5.9 index right now, 63 years old, with a driver SS under normal conditions of about 93-97 mph, on average. I hope others who have given or plan to give their thoughts on the AVX in the future, either good or not-so-good, might consider adding their age, driver swing speed and handicap to the conversation. It could be more helpful to the whole equation.

Good questions, Doug I'm going for an indoor tune-up session that will include letting Trackman pick a ball between AVX-V-X for this year. I jumped on the yellow AVX and cleaned out 2 pro shops in 2 states in case it didn't make it to market. At 85-88 mph I had a 237 yd drive on an slightly uphill fairway (last round - in December), so I can't say it has disappointed me. While the X should go further as a carry, mine tend to drop out of the sky. With a lower descent, the AVX may actually improve slower swing golfers with more roll. Will try to look at this closer in San Diego.

Doug - this only applies to me. With 56 degree wedge on full/half swings, no clear winner. With a 7 iron the AVX was longer and still had the same stopping power. For driver we didn’t bother with the X - it was clearly 3rd with the 7 iron. The AVX was over 15 yards longer. In part to 2800 vs 4200 RPMs and a 26 degree vs. a 38 degree angle of descent for a longer roll. Overall it was on average 88mph club head speed - 128 mph ball speed, 1.48 smash factor and 230 yards.
Now to hope there is a 4-4-3 deal this year with the AVX

Tried the AVX for a while but decided that my Prov1s would stay in my bag. I liked their consistency. I am gong on 73 years of age and play to a 13 handicap currently. My swing speed in around 93 mph. My ball speed is 1800 to 2200 mph with a launch angle of 14 degrees off the tee. I can still hit the ball close to 250 on a real good day. I do play the senior tees, as Jack says move up and enjoy golf. The main reason I stopped using the AVX was because of it's inconsistency on the putting greens. I did like the speed and feel on the putting greens. I still play in a few tournaments a year and my consistency on the greens decreased. I have talked to a few scratch players who like the AVX not because of the distance, but because they are diggers and they now can keep their balls of the green with less spin with their wedges. Titleist does such a great job in making balls for everyone's game. I was fitted a number of years ago at a Titleist fitting by one of their product specialists at our course and have stuck with the Prov1. I do not change balls because of weather conditions, I just adjust by changing clubs, as Titleist recommends. There is something to ball feel and consistency. Cheers.
  21. Is the 2019 proV1x longer than the previous generation ball?
  22. AVX, a total performance all around golf ball that has lot of upside. Distance, feel and is stop and drop...
