Are they still sending out Proto balls? I never received any Proto balls to test with the last 2 iterations. I would really like to get back on that list to receive these balls so I could give some feedback. I play to a 5 hcp.
  2. Played my red prototype over the past few rounds. Loved the way they felt and reaction on the greens were similar to current prov models. Durability seems to be better. After a full round I could have put the ball back in the sleeve after washing it and it would have looked brand new.

I too had the opportunity to play with the 2019 Proto and here are my results...

Off the tee: My drives seem to travel about 10 yards farther than normal with a slightly higher than normal trajectory.

Fairway wood and Long Irons: My 3 wood had a much higher flight but it traveled about the same distance as usual.

Short Irons and Wedges: Very good distance and nice stop and check action on the greens.

Overall: This new ball is very well made and I look forward to playing this ball when it comes out!
  4. Received my 2019 protons last week but due to wet weather in the great northeast, didn’t get to test them until 10/14. I was little concerned because conditions were not ideal Cooler than normal temperatures and very wet course conditions.

In testing the black model I found it feeling and sounding a lot like the the AVX model which I have been playing a lot lately. Distance was as good off the driver, and I feel more accurate than most recent Pro V1. Feeling off my irons was a little softer and also very accurate as I totaled more greens in regulation than normal. Putting feel was great and a very true roll. All in all a great feeling and playing ball which I whole heartedly recommend.

    Another great product Titleist!

    Hi Abby
My testing was in 50 degree weather. Really like the soft feel. Distance seems about like AVX. Ball flight higher than AVX. Spin is unreal. All results I'm sure would be better in July August
Thanks for the chance to test.

I also find they fly a bit higher but definitely not as far, I would say I’m a good half a club shorter.

Washington State player here, I received my 2019 red number Proto's about a week ago and put it up against my regular gamer Prov1X. I took them out on the chipping and putting practice green and put them up against each other for 3 days straight about an hour and a half each day and one round at a local course this past weekend -

First off the putter - saw and felt almost no difference between the 2, a tad softer feeling cover on the 2019 Proto but not much. Both roll pretty true and seemed to hold the line I was hitting nice and tightly. But almost no difference.

Off the 60* and 56* Vokeys - the softer coating on the Proto's seem to grip a bit more, both checked up nicely. Had the Proto check up and roll back a bit more on 25 yd + shots about 2 cups difference in check ups and rolls backs for same distance shots.

At the course for 18 -
I decided to play them alternately each hole on the front nine starting with my gamer ProV1X then the Proto. Off the tee I hit my Driver, 3 wood and 4 utility iron with both and really didn't see too much difference in flight or feel. Flight was a little higher than I like but was doing it consistently with both which in turn was making my drives about 20 yards shorter than normal. Now once I got within scoring distance I did see a bigger difference, just like on the chipping green the Proto seemed to check up quicker than the ProV1X especially on the full to 3/4 shots. I also felt like they compressed more off my irons, same flight nice and high. Around the green and putting almost no difference, maybe a touch softer off the putter with the Proto.

On the back nine I decided to put one of each in my pocket and just use the ball to finish that I grabbed and try not to look at what I was hitting, worked pretty good for the most part. Could not really tell any difference, flight and distance seemed the same. Rolled true and held up on the greens when I needed them to.

Conclusion - Both felt great and would game either one, though I was flight-ing them a little higher than usual but I was doing it with both balls (and my swing has been evolving all year, started the year with around 100 mph driver swing speed now around 108-110 on average). I'm also pretty steep with my irons so I don't notice too much difference in ball spin off my irons or wedges, they tend to check up for me. I was told to try the AVX's and see if I can get my flight and spin down a bit, especially off the tee without an equipment change. Would like to get them on a GC Quad if I can and really see what differences there are.

Also maybe Abby, you or one of the Titleist staff can recommend or give an idea about making a switch to the Prov1 or AVX? Or one of the other Team Titleist members who have had the same issues as I am having with flighting?

Thank you Titleist for choosing me to test the new 2019 Proto Reds, been a blast taking notes and feeling like I am making a contribution!!
  8. #2019Proto (Black), I took the ball out for a test at my course. The ball was hot of the tee and the flight was penetrating throw wind. Long irons were landing soft and releasing average 6 feet. The flight was a little higher but I still got good distance. Short irons were getting good bite with some back spin action. Lastly the ball came off smooth of the putter. All in all the ball was about one club longer then the Pro1X and I have no issues playing it regularly.
  9. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to test the 2019 prototype golf balls with black numbers. I tested the balls during two (2) rounds: first round was sunny and in the mid 70's, and the second round was cloudy with on/off rain and in the mid 50's.

All in all, I believe the ball performed much like the existing Pro V1. Off the tee, I noticed a small increase in distance and a higher ball flight. Approach and long iron shots also produced a higher ball flight with run out similar to that of the existing Pro V1. Wedge and around the green performance also did not produce a lot of run out. The feel off the putter was equivalent to the existing Pro V1.

    Thank you for the opportunity!
  10. I recently received a sleeve of the 2019 Prototype balls in the mail within the past couple weeks. I was able to go out yesterday and play a round, I played it side by side with a regular Pro V1.

Driver: My ball flight seemed to be a tad higher than a normal ProV1. Also my distance was probably about 10 yards further for an average over 18 holes. I also had a little more of a draw to my shot than I would with a normal ProV1, I liked having that opportunity for cutting corners a little easier.

Long Irons: Again my ball flight was a little higher, but that helped with sitting on the green for me, I felt like I had a little more control from further out than what I normally do. Every shot felt clean too, even when I thinned a shot or came off the Toe a little bit, it still flew pretty well.

Short Irons/Wedges: My absolute favorite, the check up on the green was fantastic. I felt like the ball stopped right where I wanted it too. The ProV1 has always provided that too, but this felt like it was a tad bit better in stopping where I wanted it too and sitting just where I pictured it.

Putting:The ball had a nice roll to it, it had a soft punch off the putter and just felt crisp.

I loved being able to try the new prototype and hope they start to offer this ball soon in their lineup. #2019 Proto.

Alas, I wasn’t selected to demo the new balls this time. That said, I have been a dedicated Titleist ball player my entire life. Sure, every now and then someone gets me to try their ball, but they never compare. My friends call me a ball snob...I’ll find other players balls during a round, lost balls that is, and if it’s not a prov1 or prov1x or an avx, I just give them away.

Guess I did not make the cut this year or the mailman is out enjoying a sleeve of golf balls. Life is good. =)
  14. I had a chance to play the black 2019 proto. I started off at the putting green. It felt similar to the proV on a variety of putts. I couldn’t see any difference between models when hitting chip shots.

Once I got on the course I started to see some minor differences. The 2019 seemed to give me a few extra yards off the tee. I also noted more bite on mid to long iron approach shots. One shot really stood out- I hit a 3/4 7 iron, which with a proV would typically hit and stop within a foot or two of the ball mark. With the 2019, it actually came back about a foot.

With fall golf in full swing in MI, I ended up losing the balls before I could really test durability. I general I’m playing the proV 3-5 rounds before I’ll swap them out. Would be curious to know what others experienced regarding durability.

Thanks to Titleist for including me! It was a great surprise to receive that sleeve of balls!

Want to say thank you to the Titleist golf ball marketing department for sending the Titleist prototype balls to me. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to test them out yet because here in North Texas it's like the monsoon season in India for the past 5-6 weeks. Record rains, closed courses, putting greens totally drenched. As soon as it dries up, I will send out a report on these great looking golf balls!! Again thanks Titleist!! You're the best!

Washington state golfer here. I normally game the ProV1x so was sent a sleeve of the Proto Red Numbers, but not having bought balls in a few years and recently purchasing a new box - quickly found out and then researched that the X's are the spinnier and more flighted of the ProV's and will be testing the ProV1 and the AVX soon. That being said I still took them out and tested them against each other. (if Team Titleist would like to send me Proto Black Numbers to compare...)

Putter - The only difference I could feel was the Proto's cover was a tad bit softer. Both roll, hold speed and line really well.

Wedges, 60* and 56* - Here is where I saw some differences. On 5,10 and 15 foot chips - not any difference, same flight and roll out. Now on 15,25 and 50 yard shots - the Proto's held on the face a bit longer and checked up and even rolled backed. Flight was same just seemed to spin a bit more.

On the course for a couple of rounds of 9 - On the first nine I hit both balls on every shot, almost best ball format, on the next two nines I put one of each in my pocket, randomly selected and played the ball to completion of hole and tried to not look at which ball I was using.

Off the tee they both carried and rolled out about the same distance and had similar flights. (This is where I noticed the difference in ball flight, spin and lack of roll out.) I hit driver, 3 wood and 3 hybrid off the tee and flights were nearly identical - high flight with a steep decent with very little roll out.

On shots from the fairway onto the green the shots were nice high flights that held the greens perfectly. They both feel good off the irons and wedges but the Proto's check up way more and have a tendency for my shots to roll back a bit too much especially off the wedges. Also of note, due to the higher ball flight and fall breezes my shots were knocked around a bit on a few holes with both balls.

Overall the 2019 Proto Red Numbers feel like a slightly softer, spinnier version of the current X. I think I will have to try the current ProV1 and AVX and compare as I don't need quite so much spin, that being said the nice high flight and steep decent on the current X and Proto would be good to use on courses with older smaller or firm summer greens that I will need the ball the check up on. I will need to however find a fall/winter/spring ball as the PNW breezes would drastically affect my ball in the air.

Thank you to Titleist and Abby for giving us regular Joe's a chance to try and test out new products and an outlet to give feedback on such.
  17. Tested out some 2019 proto’s this past weekend. Let me tell you what, Titleist has outdone themselves again. By comparing this ball to my usual gamer, I saw an increase of 5-10 yards in my drives. With my irons, it felt like it was a slingshot of the face of the club. Truly amazing response. As I was putting, I couldn’t get over how soft the ball felt. Smooth and pure. Overall, this golf ball is amazing. Thank you Titleist for allowing me the opportunity to test this golf ball. I look forward to many more rounds and birdies with a Titleist ProV1 in hand.

I tested a sleeve of the 2019 proto black.

I noticed they tend to launch a little higher in all areas of the game. They definitely don’t spin as much as my current ball of choice, the 2018 pro v 1. However, I was getting 2-3 extra yards on about all my clubs. They landed soft enough, due to the increased height, that spin did not make that much of a difference. However, in chip shots out of the rough around the green, it was pretty difficult to get the ball close due to the spin rates.

Thanks to all #TeamTitleist for the Invitational experience and great time. Ok, back to #2019Proto, we was given a few #2019Proto at @kiawahresort and After getting home today (Thursday) I played in my work league championship final with the Black #2019Proto.
I normally play ProV1X and these were the ProV1. They hit very well and seamed to have less spin (good thing) and a lower trajectory than normal, but it was great, trusted them and won the match. Tomorrow on to a Chamber of Commerce event and I will play the Red and report back on them.

Again, thanks to the Staff (family) of #TeamTitleist for a fantastic week, oh yah, and the TTSWAG!! I'm very blessed.
  20. Played the 2019 Proto yesterday, really liked the feel and control of the new ball as I normally play the Pro V1. Distance with driver was about the same, but iron shots flew a little higher, longer and landed soft. It has a nice soft feel off the putter as well. Will definitely put this ball in play when it becomes available.

    Thanks,
    Chuck
