Had follow up with Doctor yesterday. They took X Rays and said everything looked great. I can go back to driving vehicle. Started walking a mile a mile Thursday. They were extremely excited about that. Still have to wear back brace another three weeks, which is next Doctor visit. Hope to start PT after that visit. Said I could make RBC Heritage at HHI for Pro/Am to work in Mid April. Do shoe and glove fittings, pass out product and write orders. Maybe start baby steps getting back into golf in late April. Putting and chipping, working my way to being back on course sometime in May, after retuning with my teaching pro. This should give me time to prepare for tournaments in July, September, and October. Apologized to my T300s yesterday, they said they understand....ha..ha..ha... no worries.......thanks to all for the kind words of encouragement, to does help.......cheers!

Best of luck Chuck. I had a L5/L4 discectomy and laminectomy a number of years ago. A good surgeon and following his advise and good physio and you will be back on the course before you know it.
  6. Chuck wishing you the speediest recovery. You’ll be on the course before you know it.

Visited the neurosurgeon on Wednesday for my six weeks follow up. They were pleased with progress. Am walking two miles every day. Get this darn brace off in two more weeks. Referred me to physical therapy and started on Thursday morning and did one hour of exercises focusing on my core. All went well, but did feel the pain later in the day. Did not realize how out of shape this old body is. This should be great for my back and me physically overall. The PT Dr assured me it will be great for my golf game and he will have me 100% back in the game by June. Looking forward to the next six to eight weeks of PT, twice a week. He is developing a home exercise program for me and that should be emailed to me today. Should be in great shape for our trip to Europe in June, unless it is cancelled because of the virus.

Hakuna matata and many thanks for all your time and comments. Cheers ya'll....................

I am glad to hear that the first session of PT went well.
There will be days where it will seem that is too much to handle, but it is worth it on the end of it.
Stay strong and keep working on it.

The clinic called and my Dr is cutting back on my pt to once a week due to cut back in staffing and coronavirus. Could be 12 to fourteen more weeks before I can hit the range.......no worries.....good to be getting better and still healthy........then again the said they could start the two a week again in the near future......alway hope for the best......and again my course is closed for renovation....all the restaurants, beaches, and a lot of the courses are closed......enjoy Xfinity and suck it up.....gives my back more time to heal...most time my wife and I have spent together in our 42 years of marriage......it has been interesting.......and she is walking my evening mile with me.......I do my morning mile while she is in our exercise room.....we need our space and I watch a lot of TV in my mancave......with six TVs in the house, we can always find a happy place to watch our favorite programs.......cannot bend over....so that limits what I can do around the house.....RBC Heritage event cancelled as a lot more PGA events....guess I will have to do more exercises at home once I receive my list from the Dr......the walking is helping, have lost 15 lbs. The weeks PT at 1015 in the am. Tuesday will be my workout day. It is tough, but do love it.... always look forward to it, because of the end result.....

Spoke with my PT doctor yesterday regarding my PT exercises. Have had some soreness in my rib area and lower back area. We made an adjustment and will layoff for a few days. Will focus more on walking and change to two days of exercise and two days of walking starting on Thursday. Can you believe it has been twelve weeks since the surgery.

Had video conference today with my neurosurgeon. Said he is pleased with my recovery and explain my conversation with my PT doctor and he said he was not concerned bu that PT could in someway aggravate the issue. Advised to wait another day or two then restart. Guess surgeons and physical therapists agree to disagree at times. Well the neurosurgeon trumps. Good news is he has released me. Asked him about lifting and he said use good judgement, no bending and lifting, use legs. Can I play golf, well that is questionable in that I have not played since the first week of December. Crawl, walk, run......back to basics, putting, chipping, irons, fairways, driver, then onto the course.....hopefully the world will be somewhat right by then......as far as treatment he feels that I am ok and as far as golf I can start my way back........my T300s?....thought I heard them jump up and down as the dust fell off them.....

That is amazing Chuck, I am glad that you are doing well.
I know how much that road to recovery takes, but you got to trust on what the surgeon has done and how the PT is progressing.
Best of luck the rest of the way.

Took you advice and spent a good two hours on the range this AM. Working primarily on wedges and nine iron. Got a 70 ball bucket, fairly pleased considering the time off. No pain. Even hit a hybrid and my driver a couple plus times. About a club off in distance, but accuracy not bad. Feel started coming back and that was promising. Bought a range practice package so I can workout for a couple of weeks before hitting the course and plan on walking for a few rounds at first. Fairly happy with workout. My goal of June is realistic. My wife wants to go to Memphis area (Collierville) to visit her mom in mid June and wanted to take my clubs. Time to be ready.

Just when you think all is well and hit the driving range. There are sit backs in live and you just overcome them and trek on. Went back to see my neurosurgeon yesterday because have a tweak in my lower back again and it gave me some concern after the surgery in February. After meeting with him for about five minutes and him rubbing his thumbs along my lower backside, and hitting the spot he smiled and said I know the problem. Glad he found humor, hurt like heck. Brought in the old spine example and showed me what was causing the pain. Nothing serious, he said, used words that took a degree in medicine to understand, which the old country boy does not have, but when he pointed to the spin example I knew what he meant. Asked when I could come in and have a steroid injection, seem that solves most problems for irritations within the spine areas. I said, of course, NOW. I have taken precautions and taken my wife with me, she was in car, reading a book. Could not drive home after IV for injection. Three days of taking it easy again and will see how this goes. Pain, pain, please go away, and "do not" come again another day!!!!!!! Believe it or not, this pain DID NOT AFFECT my ability to swing the golf club, different motion. ....cheers....no worries......

Got a text from some buddies last night about playing golf today and had to get over the fear of returning after the surgery. We met at the Naval Weapons Station Joint Base Golf course at 930 this morning and had a wonderful day. There is still a little game left. Was able to play the ball where it lied including in the sand traps today. Even had a different putter in the bag to try. The results were not bad for a seven month layoff, that is not playing. So much for the driving range, I need to play. I shot an 87. 47 on the front and 40 on the back. There was some algae on the clubs and a lot of rust in my swing. Timing was way off and my distance is one club short. Guess once I get my timing issue in order, my distances will improve as well as my aim. At least I can pull a club knowing the issue. Triple bogied the first hole, no surprise and had three pars on the front, putting was terrible. Four pars and a birdie on the back and finally settled down with the new putter. Guess I need to get out more. It really felt great to get out on the course and to socialize to a point. Rode in my own cart. Practiced safety. My goal today with the long layoff and the surgery was to break 100. Mission accomplished plus. Yahoo.
