Hey gang, some of our courses are opening up so we'll be playing soon but some are still requiring play with masks. Those of you who are already playing in masks, and suggestions on what type (face gaiters or surgical style) seems to work best? Appreciate your thoughts, pros and cons on different types. There's going to be a new definition to getting a"golfer's tan".

I haven't had to wear a mask while playing yet, but I would think a gaiter would work best. Less baggy/bulky, a little more breathable, and would help keep sun off your neck. I feel like a surgical style mask would get in the way too much to be comfortable.

If I/We have to I have surgical masks. Courses here on the Island opening this weekend only walking.

Dale I picked this one out for you!!!
I like the ones similar to pictured.

Also there are several courses in RIverside that are requiring masks in the public areas of the clubhouse.
Once you leave the first tee masks can be removed based on who you are playing with and their comfort level.

    Cheers,

We have been open the whole time and are only required to wear masks when not being able to keep the social distance guidelines. One man carts or walking only, have pool noodles in the cups so you can get your ball out of the hole easily, no touching of the flagsticks, no rakes on the course, and no cash transactions in pro shop or beverage cart, and only 2 customers in pro shop at a time with yellow foot prints on the carpets to show social distancing

LOL wow you're right Dale, that will be a whole new version of the golfers tan! Whatever it takes to get out there though
  7. We are mask free here in Michigan for golf. But when I have to wear a mask/face covering I use my UA neck gator that I used for fishing. It's lightweight and extremely comfortable for those hot days. Unfortunately, it looks like they are all sold out. I looked at Huk, Costa and other fishing companies web pages and they were all gone as well. You might want to try Simms or Columbia to see if they have any left.

I heard from my buddy who played 3 times this week, the courses have only been open since last Saturday, that masks were not required.
Here in Michigan, it seems that most courses are doing the best for social distancing.
Such as book and pay online, walk only, carrying your own bag, or using a pushcart, if you don't have one you can rent one online too.
Foursomes are okay, but with some distance between you and playing partners, it seems they prefer twosomes.
And 15 minute starts between groups.
I can't wait to play, but I still need to wait to get an X-ray and the all-clear from the doctor.
In the meantime, I am going to keep annoying my wife with my putt putt golf circuit in the living room.
As for your question, I would believe that any type of face cover would be annoying when playing, but I would think that the surgical masks would be the lesser of all of the annoyances.

The Scottish Government has recommended we wear face masks in busy areas like when shopping, I have started using my Titleist snood pulled up over my nose with a cotton handkerchief inside, I look like I'm about to hold the place up but it does the job, perhaps that would do on course.

I have a Titleist snood but we are already getting 90+ degree days so i will probably use a standard over-ears mask if only required around the clubhouse and get me a thin, fishing sun gaiter if they require it while playing. Hope i can find one as most places are out of stock and backordered.

I see your point Dale, 90+ tempratures are not an issue here in Scotland....as you know.

I played yesterday afternoon and it was 96 degrees (fahrenheit) and i sure was missing that Scottish weather. Then again, there are probably a few days you wish you were out here in short sleeves and shorts. Stay safe my friend.

The weather here has been quite good recently and I have walked our course every day this week (still closed for play), I have discovered it is more pleasant without clubs, no swearing and I have not lost a single ball.

I'm hearing the bandana that ties behind the back is working well for many. They're saying (some friends who've been out in Riverside county CA) it's nice that you can have it set and ready to cover (pull up) when you're about to approach the green and tee or at any time you get close to anyone while you can have it around your neck while you are far from anyone.

While walking/exercising or golfing, the masks does not deliver enough oxygen (or something to that effect) and can be a hazard (but not like a penalty area) to the golfer while golfing- most especially in the heat.

Additionally, in the local courses that have been open, there are no available drinking water in the jugs by the tee, so you may want to bring a bottle of water. Also, the restrooms are not available.

Anyway, I'm happy to hear that golf courses are starting to open, but I hope it gets better than this.

Have enough issues with the masks going to the grocery store and pharmacy..... Guys, even though the doctor has said I can go back to playing golf, slowly before playing 18, think I will limited my time to the practice greens and driving range for a while until I get the rust off my game. Five months has been along time and am not in a rush with the virus still active. At 73 not paranoid, just cautious.....have not played, as stated, in five months, and the world is still here, what is another month.....with respect....cheers

My get up to get milk the other day.
    We use running balaclavas.
My wife and I look like bank robbers going into the stores.

For protection and comfort go for the JSP Force 8 mask. It's just as easy for the virus to enter the eyes so I would recommend goggles for full protection.

The Gov. of Mass extended our stay at home order though 5/18, so who knows- if/when it does we'll have to mask up.
When I've had to go to the grocery I've gone with the bandana and feel like I'm robbing a train. If I have to mask it when I golf I'll probably use the same style.
  22. Keep my bandanna in the car, feel like I am in the wild west.

Here in Texas, golf is considered exercise and masks are not required while exercising. That said, we practice social distancing before, during, and after our rounds. Some wear masks while checking in, and some put them back on after play before departing the course. Otherwise, golf is mask free around me.

Masks not required so far here at PGA GC but recommended to have handy. I keep a bandanna in my golf cart.

Golf with a mask sounds terrible, but its better than no golf! We've been fortunate that our club stayed open the entire time. Played about 4 times a week since early March and the wife even started playing a few times a week since nothing else is open! Silver lining to COVID.

played here today in LaQuinta and the rule is only have to wear if within 6 ft of someone, but when you’re swinging it’s not needed to wear, so i was happy about that.
  27. My course in Kuala Lumpur opened yesterday and I played 18 holes yesterday and 9 holes today.
Great thing is golf courses are opened from 4th May but my office is closed until 12th May.
Wore a 3 ply mask. It’s uncomfortable and a little bit difficult to breath when you walk too fast. So now and then I took it off and have a few gulps of air before putting it back on again.

One thing I noticed is that after about 13 holes yesterday, legs felt some pain and a bit like jelly and not much power left to drive the ball hard. I used to be able to walk 36 holes before lockdown.

So if you can try to walk 10 km at home during lockdown, it will help.

Another thing I noticed is the rough in my course is really long and once in there chances of finding the ball is 10%. But I think the problem is because the authorities announced 2 days before the courses were allowed to open so they only have enough time to cut the fairway and greens.

Bunkers is free drop out of the bunker and weeds and grass already growing in some of them.
