    I have aTitleist Vokey SM 7 60 degree wedge with 10 degrees of bounce I use it a lot from 80 yards in and for most bunker shots. I have a Vokey SM 4 54 degree wedge with 11 degrees of bounce. I want to replace my 54 My home course is relatively firm. What bounce should I look for in my new wedge. I usually take a shallow divot with my wedges.

    How do I change my trap play when each trap has different texture, ie. ones fluffy ones rock hard sand,. What are the cues I should be using to be a successful bunker player?

    What is the optimum level of bounce to have on my 60 if I often open the club face to hit a soft pitch shot? Or should I just use a 64?

    How can you develop confidence swinging with sufficient speed on flop shots to get appropriate distance and spin? Fear of the 90 yard line drive is strong.

    For wedge play about 40 yards and in, I generally use either my 56 degree or my 64 degree, depending on lie, angle, pin placement, etc. Lately I've tried to learn to hit my 64 degree no matter what (previously it was more for hitting over hazards and out of rough). Would you recommend committing to just one wedge or the other and learning how to hit anything with that wedge, or does it make sense to keep switching between the two based on variables? Thanks!

    I have always only carried one pitching wedge and I just bought a cheap 60 degree on eBay to try. What wedges should I start carrying and practicing with to start to improve?

    Hello Layne,

    Pete Cowen says in green side bunkers the swing path should be in line with your target, in otherworldly do not swing left of the target. He also shows the wedge pointing at your crouch thus exposing the bounce. Have used this technique my sand game improved. But I still have a question should the club be open up still even with his technique?

    So, I am from Southern California and we have a very nasty rough called Kikuyu at a lot of the courses here. It’s super sticky and you can’t hit bump and runs through it, therefore you have to carry the ball onto the green. My question is, what works better chipping and pitching from Kikuyu, more bounce or less bounce. I feel like more is better but curious if you guys have tested it, especially with it being the dominant grass at Riviera CC.

    When practicing finesse wedges. Do you alter swing speed for shots under 60 yards? Or length of backswing to hit your distance numbers?

    Dear Doc and Layne,

    How much should a parent of a junior (8-12) golfer focus on wedge features (e.g. lie, grind, etc.) for their golfer? Does it really matter at that age?

    What is the best way to decide which shot to play around the green? Having trouble deciding whether to bump it, hit high, or in between.

    I have difficulty with chipping from tight lies. I'm not sure whether its ball position in my stance or distribution of my weight but, in my mind, I'm so concerned with hitting it too thin and having the ball fly beyond my target. Can you suggest a way I should approach this so I can gain some confidence in these situations? Thank you!

    I've recently found using the bounce is a great method of running the ball up near the hole instead of pulling out the ole 7 iron to pitch and run. What are your thoughts?

    On a par 3 with a green surrounded by a lot of undulation and your typical 2nd cut rough, I sometimes find myself with a really challenging and intimidating lie. Imagine your lie on a 30 degree downward slope on the short side of the green with the hole about 2 to 3 feet above you. What is the best strategy to use for this situation?

    My go-to wedge around the green for chips is my 56 deg. However, I have trouble with delicate chips out of thicker and sticky greenside rough. Is it the right approach to use greater club head speed and stronger attack angle? If so, should I be using say a 60 deg wedge and be more aggressive?

    Is it better to use a high lofted Wedge out of the sand if it’s a short sand shot or should I use the standard 56°?
