I have played two rounds with the test ball, both in dry winter conditions. It feels soft off irons and driver and flies well giving good distance. Can't comment on spin as greens are soft at this time of year but my gut feeling is it will stop well on firm surfaces. I would certainly buy this ball if I knew what it was! Good job! Regards Den

Tried black numbered balls last weekend.
Good distance off the tee and workable.
Cover was soft, and checked up very quickly on short shots around the green.
If this is the new NXT Tour, it will be a very good ball.

Thank you for the opportunity to test these two types of ball.
I've now played three rounds with the black numbered ball. Due to the weather it has been difficult to gauge the run I might get, but the flight and distance in the air using my driver has made me smile. It may be a false impression but it seems I'm getting a straighter ball flight with off centre hits and noticeably increased distance from the sweet spot.
Durability is excellent. Despite heavily sanded greens, I didn't see any scuff marks until well into the 3rd round this compares well to the srxn ball I would usually use at this time of year which will scuff up often during it's first round.
The ball feels nice off the putter face although it's difficult to say how it rolls as we're playing on cored and sanded greens.
I would happily put this ball in my bag in the new season if we get to hear which ball it is.
Allan.

Have now used both balls, conditions cold damp and windy but actually excellent for Winter golf.
I found the Red ball to be the better of the two for me. It certainly seemed to travel a little further than I expected on my drives and was about half a club longer on irons to the green. It did seem that it had a low spin rate, giving a good amount of roll after landing, Felt nice on the putter. All in all a ball I'd like to play.
As for the Black, it felt quite hard and less forgiving and seemed to take more spin. I didn't get the same feel as the Red and I suspect it's probably more suited to faster swing speeds than mine. Drives were about the same distance but my Irons seemed to come up a bit short. Felt a bit firm on putting but still worked well.
Difficult really to give a truly objective comparison as I played Red on my home course and Black on another, about 4 days apart and different air temperature. It could have just been the weather and my own performance making the difference. I would have thought hitting 25 of each on a range would give a more immediate and accurate impression of the performance.
Anyway both are obviously quality balls and what I'd expect from Titleist. The differences were actually marginal between the two, they made the right sound off the bat and gave feel on softer chips and putts. Can't wait to find out what models they are.
I haven'r read any other posts before writing this in case it coloured my opinion. I'll now check to see if I'm on my own or if others agree with me!

Interestingly I found the exact opposite. The red numbered balls felt firmer off all clubs from driver down to putter.
I was able to compare the 2 types of test ball against a 2013 Pro V1 today. The test balls provided very similar results in terms of distance with all clubs but did not have quite the same amount of control. The test balls also did not wear as well as the Pro V1, they were signs of wear after only a few holes.
Overall, the test balls with the black numbers suited my swing better and I would be happy to use them.

thanks for test balls tried both now and prefer black numbered balls for both feel and performance, both seem to fly longer than normal ball and both were unmarked after round would definitely be interested in using in future thanks again alan,

Tried both balls now.
The red numbered ball feels good and goes well, but scuffs very easily in our coarse river sand bunkers. The black numbered ball, on the other hand has had two rounds of golf and still looks great. Both balls feel 'heavy' off the club face and show good penetration and plenty of stop. The feel round the putting green is also excellent.
Let me know what the black numbered ball is and it'll be my ball of choice for the future.

Hi,
I tried the Red Numbered ball this weekend and it feels the firmer of the two. I felt my distance was down a little although fell was good and the ball rolled well off the putter face. I will try the black numbered ball this weekend.

I have used both Balls now and find the Black giving me a bit more distance than I'm used to.
The Red was very similar, but I liked the black around the greens.
Putting with either seemed good and had a good feel.
Also the black seemed good coming down on the green and stopping quite well.
To be honest I liked both of them and would play either of them at any time!!
Thanks again for the opportunity to try them

Tried the balls out last week on a very windy and cold day. Generally the ball held up well in these conditions but I'm used to playing with a harder ball. I will try them again when the weather conditions are better.

I have only played one test round with both balls and due to weather conditions it is a little difficult to highlight real differences between the red and black numbered balls.
Both stop well into admittedly soft greens, although I feel that the black ball feels slightly better on short chips around the greens. I probably hit the black ball slightly further than the red, which to my mind flew slightly higher. Conversely, I felt that the red ball was less affected by sidespin than the black.
Both balls felt fine off the putter and I would happily put either into play on a regular basis, subject to normal considerations such as price points, etc.
I should also be interested to find out what these balls were, in due course.

Hi David,
Many thanks for the 2 tubes of balls and have now played several rounds with each colour.
Appearance wise they both looked like a 'harder' ball than I would normally use but both gave a reassuring sound when struck with either a wood or iron and the cover appears to be more durable.
I experienced more distance with the red numbered balls but better control and flight with the black numbered balls especially when using my shorter irons, the red ones were better off the putter face, but then that could be put down to my stroke and the cold conditions!
Either ball I feel would make a good winter ball but will save 1 of each and report back when the weather is a little less wet and a tad warmer .!!

Hi, thank you so much in letting me take part in the test. Being a Titleist boy through and though I got a little excited with I saw a parcel from Acushnet!!
I tried to work out the dimple patterns. I presume the black was an NXT S and the Red a DT Solo???? I could be way out there though.
Before I took them out on the course I had a roll with them on the living room carpet and the black version feels superb. Almost as soft as the old tour balata.
From the tee, I found I lost a little bit of distance with the black, but similar distance with the red to my Pro V
I didn't really notice a difference in ball flight to be honest but the weather was against me at this point!
The black was again the preferred ball though the irons, again loosing a little distance, but a sacrifice for feel and control.
Onto wedge play I found that the red and the black had similar spin and control but again the black felt softer.
Putting, I actually prefer the red and the black to the feel of the latest Pro V. A more muted sound and I felt that I didn't have to hit the ball any differently with either ball to achieve the same distance - I did the putting test with a Tel3 Newport, Newport Beach Stainless and an old Tour Model Blade.
Overall neither ball scuffed up and durability was reasonable compared to the Pro V.
I may even give the 'black' ball a go if you post some results to tell us which was which.
Cheers

Thanks for the chance to test out the new balls.
Out of the two I found the red ones to go a little further with a surprisingly consistent ball flight. The low irons/wedges had very impressive spin on the greens for non premium balls and felt very nice off the putter face.

Had 18 with the black numbered balls today.
Was overall reasonably impressed.....the ball feels very nice and soft...almost marshmallow soft when putting and chipping but strangely dead off the driver face.....it never felt like it was launching off the face off the driver with any energy.
I'd say that driver spin was reasonably well controlled....certainly not getting wild sidespin off the driver that the ProV1 delivers (I play off 9 and hit a controlled fade usually off the tee). I wouldn't say that the ball was any longer or shorter than what i'm used to.
Distance control with the irons was pretty good as well...although it wasn't as cold as it has been recently so perhaps the effects of winter wasnt quite so prevalent.
My impressions are that this ball doesn't deliver huge wedge spin either....I hit some nice shots into receptive greens today and by and large they stayed pretty much where they landed....no significant backspin.
Will probably give them another go next Sunday round my home course.

Thanks for the TEST balls. Have now played with them twice and found them to feel nice off the driver with more hang time than my current ball of choice. Particularly impressed with the durability of the cover with no scuffs or stains after the two rounds.
I gave one to a playing partner who is a regular Pro Vi player and he confirmed the feel off the driver but was not so impressed around the green. I, also, gave one to our club pro who, again, commented positively on the way it came off the face of the driver.

Hi DL
Thanks for the balls.
I've tried balls from both sleeves, both the red and black numbers.
I'm not sure if I'm good enough to tell if there is a difference ! but I thought the black numbered balls to be slightly better and not so hard.
They are both good balls in this weather but I would like to try them in the sun/heat - roll on next April and the next 'Spanish Tour'.
They have a good flight path off the tee (but that is more to do with my 910 driver) and managed to get check with them with my AP2 and Vokey wedge.
The red numbered balls seem to go a little spongy during the second round with the same ball whereas 'black' were more consistent.
To me (13 handicapper) they felt somewhere between a NXT tour than a Pro V but more NXT.
I've still got some left so will 'finish the box'
See you soon !

recieved 2 sleeves of test balls a couple of weeks ago, first chance to play them yesterday, only played the red number ball to compare against my normal pro V1x
felt softer than my ball, good strong flight, a little higher than the pro v1x which gave me more carry distance, stops well on the green with good spin, didn't like the feel off the putter though.
will use again before I try the black #ball

I was asked by my golf pro to check out the test golf balls - a scheme that I did not know about but hats off Titleist great idea.
I found the ball good to work with on and around the greens , a nice feel specially the putts. Iron shots did seem to drop a bit short for me. The ball was good like all Titleist balls for endurance and lasted me well until I lost one on the 16th under the blasted leaves !

Thanks for the balls, black numbered ones flew well off the driver but not so much feel around green and off the putter. Red number balls were not quite so good off the driver but had a better feel around green and off the putter. Both flew well off irons.
Both seemed durable and did not mark up in use

Hello , thanks for the test balls to try out , seemed a little harder than normal , seemed good for winter conditions as I like target golf, putting with them was not bad either , a good all round ball good for winter /spring but think it might fall short in sticking to greens in summer conditions
